How did you guys feel going against Cags in game 3 back in 2023?

I honestly did not see us bouncing back after that shellacking the day prior, especially with Hurd getting the start.

Ive literaly never picked the tigahs to loose a game. If it looka like we will, i just turn the tv off and dont believe it to have happened!

IDK, I remeber thinking we had a good shot. Cags threw hard but was very wild. Hurd had been dealing all post season plus we had Coop and Guidry ready to relieve Hurd and we all knew that Skenes would close the game if necessary.

There wasn’t any time to worry about it. We scullfricked them from the jump that night

When I saw Belly batting leadoff I knew we were dogpiling.

He had notoriously struggled with control. I pretty much knew after the first inning, he was going to get lit up

When Thompson came to the plate for the 1st time and the crowd cheered as he walked up. Then got a basehit I new the whopping was on.

I felt like we were going to win going into that game. The previous game felt like we were exhausted from the tournament and it came to a head. We folded and just decided to win it in game 3. I felt like we were going to rest up, lick out wounds, and come out swinging.

I felt good because the Florida guys behind us said he was inconsistent and Jay saved our pen after that game was out of reach, which was half the reason it turned into a home run derby.

Was this the game he smoked our leadoff hitter to start the game? with like a 99 MPH fastball to the back or something like that?

I knew Florida blew their load in game 2.

I knew it was over before it began when I saw CJJ finally put a prototypical leadoff hitter in the 1 hole!

In all seriousness, I watched a few games with Cags pitching and I wasn’t that worried, especially considering we had the potential to run Skenes out there if needed.

Yeah he wasn't a guy that went 5-6+ innings that season and Florida had burned through a good many arms already. We had the edge pitching wise.

Hurd was a completely different pitcher in the postseason.

The score didn’t matter at all. Once Thompson made the error and we fell behind 7-2 Jay conceded that game and used the bottom of the barrel bullpen arms to have arms ready for game 3. It was much easier to bounce back from that game than say, Arkansas dropping a pop up and having to play another game. Crews said in the postgame press conference that the team had already moved on to game 3. I can tell you the team pretty much had moved on by the 7th inning of game 2.

Worst case scenario would have been to be in a tie game in the 7th inning and you use Cooper and Guidry trying to win that game. If you lose and they aren’t ready to go in game 3 that would have been disaster.

That was such a good call by Jay. Not many coaches would have the guts to basically concede a game in the CWS finals
