The new West would be more Big 12 than SEC.

Could lead to undoing of divisions if they were to join

Whenever OU's name has come up in the past, someone always pipes up and says that there is some state law or something that says OU and OK State have to be in the same conference.

Has anyone ever seen proof of that?

As noted, UT would have to give up the UT Network & I'd think that's a lot of income to give up.

Imagine a world where OU doesn't get to coast to the playoffs just to get their doors blown off.

This is why I highly doubt this is true

OU makes it to the playoffs nearly every year because they're overhyped in a weak conference and all Texas has to do is get good enough to beat them and they'll be the overhyped team in the weak conference getting into the playoffs

If they are ever allowed to join, the NC game every year should definitely include two SEC teams! Forget about Clemson and Ohio State! What other league would be able to even try and compare themselves to the SEC? The rest of college football can fight for the smaller bowls!

No, this would the first step in creating the long-rumored four 16-team super conferences. The playoffs would consist of the four conference winners.

So LSU would take on the Longhorns in 2050?

if this happens, it will cause the other conferences to realign into super-conferences, and then those superconferences (48-60 teams) will split off into their own division. Have an 8-team playoff, so there will likely be at least two teams from each conference.

And Texas would have to agree to share revenues fairly, which I doubt they'd ever do.

SEC got the new contract with ESPN. Texas can’t compete with that.

ETA $3 BILLION contract with ESPN

Nah, bring in Oklahoma, fine, but to add a 16th, get UNC. UT doesn't add to the footprint.

Alabama would never allow this.
And we all know the SEC runs every decision by Bama...so you can scrap this thought

Texas (and OK to a lesser extent) would have to accept the reality that they are equal partners with all the other SEC schools.

Nothing, I mean nothing, in Texas past or present makes me think they would accept that.

They may well have reached out to the SEC... but they are only going to join on their terms... which will not be acceptable to the conference.
