I don't believe Aranda was holding anything back, but at the same time I do believe that because of the offensive prowess Aranda has been able to explore what works with certain personnel. And I do believe that he has been developing a game plan all year for this game. They can down play this games significance all they want for show, but they are building the team to BEAT BAMA! Let the chips fall where they may after that, but that is the goal.

Mostly, the D-line needs to get pressure and put their hands up in Tua's face because if you blitz and you don't get to Tua in less than 2 seconds he will kill you on the quick slants.

Aranda will have to derive a stellar game plan to slow down the here-to-now unstoppable Tide.

Remember we're only five weeks removed from a Vanderbilt team which racked up 38 points!

I’ve supported the defense all year, and I still have full faith in Dave Aranda. The defense is going to give up yards and points, they just need to get a few stops or hold to FGs, which I fully expect them to do.

We have been very vanilla in our approach thus year, due to Burrow killing it and not having to rely on D to keep opposing teams under 20 pts.

if you think we have been holding back on D because O is good, you are an idiot. We had to win 2 games by covering an onside kick... If we had the D to stop them from keeping it close, and we didn't, the coaches are as dumb as you....

No one is totally stopping Bama.

The plan should be to slow them down.

Bend, don't break.

I agree. Tua's quick release and the speed of the Bama receivers is going to difficult to stop between the 20s. If we don't give up big plays and force Bama to score in the red zone, we have a very good chance to win.

While the optimism is great, I do not believe there are "hidden" schemes and "holding back the D" as you have expressed. I think this D has been young, careless at times and has not executed as they should. I do hope that they come out and are able to "EXECUTE" as they should, tackle at first contact, and not over pursue. If they do that, they will have their best game to date as a defensive unit.

Would be a great game for Chaisson to show out

THIS! If not now, when? I'm a huge #18 fan and it's time to make an impact like never before.

I just think most of this board is insane in their fandom, and the collective doubt amongst the posters is baffling.

So you think that people that have doubts about us winning this game are insane as opposed to people who think there's a mythical secret playbook?

Aranda is fantastic, but he just doesn't have the horses up front to get pressure without blitzing. Having a high octane offense also doesn't help matters, and pretty obviously has shifted LSU into a bend don't break defense.

I have been thinking the same. I know Aranda was working on schemes early in the season to see what worked. He has been trying to find the right recipe. I believe the defense will show up and be the difference in this game.

Never once mentioned a secret playbook.
I just feel, as a fan of the team which consists of 18-22 yr old men, we should be supportive and uplifting and have faith that our highly skilled and compensated coaches will put us in the best place to win.
If you want to doubt, so be it. I don’t have time for that.
Forever LSU.

I saw a video on this saying a lot of defenses are going to this against high powered offenses. Play for the field goal.

I don't know if I fully agree with the approach, but it looks like we've been running this all year in preparation for teams like Bama, Clemson, tOSU, etc.

The problem becomes when you don't keep the other teams to the field goal

I think we've been slowly working on zone schemes all year to try and prepare for Bama. I truly believe that.

Clemson disguised their schemes and switched between zone and man. It destroyed Tua's confidence and playmaking. I'm thinking Aranda is going to try something similar.

The hell with all u doubters!!! If the Tigers play 4 quarters LSU wins. We usually don't play until the 2nd.quarter!Against BAMA if we don't play the whole game we get screwed again!

I can promise you the defense, just like the offense, has weekly and yearly goals. They want to be #1 defense in every category. They want players to win the Thorpe, Butkus, Outland, etc. They aren't sandbagging just to turn up the heat for one game.
