Me thinks Aranda, who knows more about defense than this entire board combined, has been prepping for this game for over a year.
We have been very vanilla in our approach thus year, due to Burrow killing it and not having to rely on D to keep opposing teams under 20 pts.
I expect us to come out with looks unseen all year, and pressure Tua into mistakes.
Fully confident we get the job done.
frick all the haters and doubters on this board.
Forever LSU.

Would be a great game for Chassion to show out in. Need to send different types of blitzes if we want to be successful on defense.

so you’re saying that aranda just stood there and watched the D get torched against texas and refused to try something that might have worked in order to save it for bama, even if it meant potentially losing that game? highly, highly unlikely. hope the defense balls out saturday though!

THIS. I’m no where near a Nega but damn some of you people are setting yourself up for a huge disappointment. To think he held back for all three of our top ten opponents is crazy. And people with this logic will be the first ones on here Saturday calling for his head when bama converts a third and long

Well, since Tua's passing completion rate drops to 35.8 percent when pressured, then it is imperative that Aranda prepares to be very aggressive in going after the QB. It's not necessary to sack him repeatedly, although a few sacks would be nice, it is necessary to disrupt his passing rhythm and timing.

Aranda can't afford to wait until the 3rd quarter to go after the QB. He needs to do it from the beginning of the game, and if he is successful, LSU will inevitably win.

As Joe Burrow's passing completion rate when under pressure only drops to 77.6 percent.

As I think the team with the better QB Saturday wins the game and that team is LSU cause Joe Burrow has been the best QB overall all season thus for.

This is something that is very real for Bama's defense too. Saban and his analysts definitely will have a few wrinkles for Burrow and the LSU offense and I'm sure the Auburn game plan gave them a few ideas. Hopefully we will be more prepared for the wrinkles and Ensminger and Brady will have a way to combat the Auburn type of defense and anything else Bama may have come up with.

Did you miss the Texas and Florida games? There is no “vanilla”. Might Aranda have some new wrinkles? Sure, but our defense is what it is and now less Divinity (who makes plays) and possibly with a less than 100% Delpit.

Nope. Was there for the Tx Game.

He who focuses on the negative will only see negative.
Good thing there is more than those two on D, and I was referring to schemes. Have faith or don't. I don't care.
I just think most of this board is insane in their fandom, and the collective doubt amongst the posters is baffling.

I just disagreed with the premise. I’m cautiously optimistic about the game. However, Delpit is valuable for more than his athletic and play making abilities. He is a “coach on the field”. He understands Aranda’s scheme and is a leader.

I expect a game similar to the ‘13 UGa game with Mett vs Murray and going down to the final two possessions.

So, first play of the game LSU’s Aranda puts in a 5th string walk-on safety and blitzes Tua and destroys him on a targeting call to the head a full 5 seconds after he lets go of the ball. 15 yard penalty from the LSU 25 yd line. Said safety is ejected for life and never sees another snap as an LSU football player. Strategy !

He still has a top 25 defense paired with top 5 offense.

LSU is giving up .11 yard per play more than Bama.

Top 5 Total Offense

Oklahoma Def rank 30th
UCF Def rank 35th
Clemson Def rank 4th
LSU Def rank 23rd
Wash St Def rank 113th

Its hard to have it both ways. Clemson has the worst schedule of all time.

I'm not one to believe there is a secret playbook with unseen plays. I think the D that we have seen is the D we have. I sure don't believe that Aranda was holding back plays against Texas, UF, and Auburn as the UT and UF offenses moved the ball and scored well and allowed long 3rd down conversions.

Now at least in the UF and Auburn game the 2nd half was different and he made adjustments, especially in the UF game.

Now do I think there will be some things we haven't seen before.....probably because LSU hasn't played an explosive offense like this with 3 stud WR's with crazy YAC numbers. So I think we see a lot of man coverage and some varying blitzes to see if they can get to Tua.

You do not run the same defense vs every team. You have a base D but the other packages arent needed for each game.

When he needed to, he went to more stunts vs Florida and Auburn and got to the qb. No reason to believe he wont do same vs Bama.

Wouldn't it be cool if the whole Divinity thing was a diversion and last minute he is announced as rejoining the team with a whole slew of blitz packages featuring a combination of him and Chaisson used in the game?

Wishful thinking, but would be pretty interesting.
