Record is safe, and that 1997 team hit 188 in 70 games, UTenn has hit 180 and tonight’s game will be game 72 for them…they are not the same…not even close! ????
I have a feeling we aren’t far away from the NCAA tweaking the bats again. Three HR in the CWS have had an exit velocity of over 115. That’s not going to continue without changes.

You can put a * since they get to play more games now. 97 LSU team played 70 games that season, 24 Tennessee will get 74 games assuming they win today.

This is the type of numbers that make the ncaa change things
Let’s hope they don’t

I hope they do. Just don’t go overboard like 2011.
There is a happy medium to the game. I hate seeing the game played as walk, strikeout, strikeout, home run, strikeout. (I exaggerate some)
College baseball was just about right in the late 2010’s.

The NCAA actually put a limit on the amount of regular season games you could play at 56 in the early 90s. Before that teams could play as much as you want. Warm weather teams would routinely play 5-6 game a week sometimes early in the season. Nowadays there is obviously more postseason games you can play than there was in 1997.

Nah I love gorilla ball. It’s fun to watch to me.

Pitchers are also throwing harder than ever before
No they are not. Before, pitchers were clocked 5 feet from plate. A few years ago, they began clocking them 3 feet in from release point.
Now do the physics and realize the ball is about 8.896% faster when clocked closer to the release point. I do not know why it changed. After all, I would think they would want to know what the speed is closer to the batter.
For those who don't do math, please take a look at the video of Paul Skenes pitching. Then go look at a video of Nolan Ryan. You will see the huge difference. Did Ryan throw 108+ mph?
Ryan's last pitch before his career-ending injury was 98mph. Insane! He was in his mid 40's.

You honestly believe that, on average, pitchers now aren’t throwing harder than they were in the 90’s?
Posted on 6/23/24 at 11:41 am to LSBoosie
Yes, I do. Today's 95 mph pitcher was a 89 mph pitcher 10 years ago.

Skip actually said he was impressed with Tenn.'s HR hitting. Nothing but compliments about their team & their record chasing.

Well they are inching closer

On average they throw harder because it is all max effort all the time. There wasn’t limits on pitch count like today. They knew that they HAD to pitch longer so they didn’t try to throw harder.
Ryan pitched 13 innings once in a game in 74. He gave up 3 Earned runs. Struck out 19 and walked 10 throwing 235 pitches. TWO HUNDRED THIRTY FIVE. That’s about 2.5 games for starters today.
Ryan did throw 98 on his last pitch at 46 years old after 27 years in the league. He was in a class by himself. There is no denying that.

All of what you said is great, but has nothing to do with what I said. That guy said he doesn’t believe that guys are throwing harder today, which you even admitted is incorrect.

100% correct only I’d add the gun is now roughly 2mph faster since it picks up top speed where as the old one clocked speed crossing the plate.

They aren't throwing harder than Ryan.

It should be clocked at the plate! That’s your true speed!

Why are y’all so fixated on Nolan Ryan?

They need six to tie tomorrow?
We should be okay unless aTm is completely devoid of pitching.
The pitching today is better than it has ever been but one reason for the gaudy gun numbers is because the gun currently in use picks up the velocity closer to the pitcher as opposed to the old juggs gun which picked it up closer to the plate after the ball slowed down a little bit.
