quote:righty on righty matchup with two lefties coming up. I'm assuming he wanted to keep that pitcher in and facing a guy who was 2/9 with 7 strikeouts probably didn't look all that bad to him at the time.
The brain dead part was pitching to Jones with the winning run on 2B and 1B open.

We need a gif of the LF having the ball bounce off his shoulder to pair with this one.

Chips Ahoy had to think it was 2 outs

4. Ball is tipped by 2B giving up game winning run.
This one doesn’t belong.
You can add the walk though.

Also if 2B totally misses the ball instead of tipping it, we probably get thrown out at the plate by the center fielder.

We all know Jones’ power and his season average, but he struck out 7 times in the last 2 games against Arkansas and was facing a RHP with 2 lefties coming up after that.
I think the only player they would rather pitch to in that exact situation was Braswell.
And fricking great on Jones for his results last night and his overall play all year long, but especially during his slump. He’s never let his poor batting results impact his defense which has been stellar. So good in fact, that we thought him not picking that ball on the potential inning ending DP throw was surprising.

I don’t think that they turn two in that situation. The SS was going to his right and had a long feed to second and the runner probably beats the throw to first. Getting the lead out at third was the correct play.

Curiel would have been safe even with a good throw. He was given a hit.

The replay showed that our runners weren’t even close to the bases yet. There was definitely plenty of time to turn two.

Milam wasn’t even to the grass yet when he threw it to 3rd
Hell, the 3B may have been able to throw him out on that play

Then they’d have a righty pitching to lefty Jake who’s been money all week. They made the right decision. Bear just kept his eye on the breaking ball and made enough contact to get it over 2b.
Edit: Pearson was up after jones. My error.

Exactly. All these dummies saying he should have put Jones on were the same dummies that wanted to bench him cause “he sucks”. The only benefit of putting him on first was to create the force at second…..which they didn’t really need with two outs.

No, they did not, Ark did not lose it, LSU too advantage of the situation and won it.

You usually don’t see that much clusterfrick/bad luck play in an entire game much less the most important inning of a season.
The only one I've seen worse, knowing what's at stake, was the '03 NLCS game Cubs vs Marlins (Moises Alou/Steve Bartman incident). That mental collapse/meltdown is just 1 inning in just incredible.

What I saw with the second baseman error. It wasn't that he didn't jump high enough, the ball hit him in the glove, his nervousness caused him to mistime his jump just a fraction of a second, ball hit his glove and came out. It wasn't a difficult play.

I still don’t get this one. The LF slipped, the 1B made a bad throw, Bear had a nice hit. But the SS was an unreal mental choke.
