Mickey was a HS phenom under Hank Tierney at SHAW. Watched him play many times in the late 80's as he could have gone to any college in America. Decided to play for Tom Osbourne at Nebraska. Career was cut short during a freak accident, late hit on the sidelines when his calf was lacerated to the bone. He was never the same

I know Mickey Joseph and will support him 100% as an LSU coach

Joseph is a high school legend in NO and has deep ties there. He will benefit NO area recruiting far more than Juluke ever did.

Mickey signed with NEB so he could run the QB option / wishbone . LSU was good at the time but their offense didn't fit Joseph's QB style

Juluke is younger and had just landed a job at texas tech. this guy hasn't sniffed anything other than HBCU's and Tech

Juluke went to Tech from Karr and was hired Texas Tech after Kingsbury took over for recruiting but has yet to provide any real dividends in that area that's why he was let go. Joseph on the other has spent most of his time coaching HBCU's but his position groups there performed very well with the talent that they had. one thing I know for sure they didn't drop the ball as much as LSU receivers

Curious as to how Coach O got Robinson from USCw. Is this not a lateral move unless more money involved? And it is cheaper to live in B.R. that it is in L.A. I know they coached together before, but still seems like a lateral move on paper.

"Mickey was a HS phenom under Hank Tierney at SHAW"

My question is can he out recruit Pete Jenkins? Hahaha

Count me in the 20% then. Actually got to see him coach Langston in a couple games here a few years ago. He seems really solid, and his players love and respect him.

Maybe not the huge splash that some wanted, but he's gonna be a damn good one, and I like the hire a lot.

Joseph signed in January of 1988

In 1986 we won the SEC title

In 1987 we finished 5 in the country

So yeh, we were better?

Yeah, everybody here went nuts about Juluke last year. Turns out wasn't such a great hire. Time will tell.

This.

Joseph is a great hire! No one can question his commitment to NO kids after what he did after Katrina. Do some research before passing judgement.

Two great hires from everything I've heard about these guys. On field coaching and recruiting just got better.

I can't speak to his coaching abilities, but he was one hell of a high school option QB. He was so fast. The whole family was talented. His brother Vance, now Denver's Head Coach, won state titles in football and basketball as the QB for Shaw's football team and the starting point guard for the basketball team. He was awesome in both. Their cousin Terry was really talented too in multiple sports. He was in the Cubs organization for a few years.

So the New Orleans high school coaching boycott of LSU is no more with these two on staff?
