One meh hire (Joseph)

What have you based then on? Not popular enough for you? Somebody has faith in him to make this hire, you should respect that decision.

Joseph signed in January of 1988

In 1986 we won the SEC title

In 1987 we finished 5 in the country

So yeh, we were better?

College football is a totally different animal. Its an arms race now. We have ridiculous facilities, crazy SEC exposure, etc.

And our last title in 1988 was 30 years before that. Most of the kids these days remember us winning the big one in 2007 and dominating in 2011 before losing to Alabama.

Looking at the year before with a top 5 finish is stupid. These kids pay attention before their senior and junior year in HS. LSU has had way more exposure in the last 10 on a national scale.

78-88:
- 81-43 record (65.3%)
- 2 losing seasons
- 2 SEC Titles (1 tie)
- 2-6 in bowl games
- 2 AP Top 10 finishes (5, 10)
- 0 National Championship appearances or titles

06-16:
- 110-34 record (76.4%)
- 0 losing seasons
- 2 SEC Titles
- 7-4 in bowl games
- 4 AP Top 10 finishes (3,1,8,2)
- 2 National Championship appearances and 1 Title

These are the two versions of LSU's program that Louisiana kids grew up with in Mickey's time versus the kids that signed a week ago.

ETA:

And then we could look at something they realllly pay attention to, which is how well we get kids to the NFL. We've become an NFL farm system these days.

Who has Joseph coached that is in the NFL? Serious question. Also, isn't the SWAC the worst quality football in FCS?

He coached the Rodgers kid from Grambling that plays with the Colts, He also coached the Williams kid from Grambling that will get drafted and a few more that will make it. Also Grambling has been one of the been one of the Top FCS teams for the last couple of years!!

"Johnson turned us down"

Really? Since when does an assistant coach turn down a job offer from LSU to remain as an assistant coach at a Memphis???

What have I missed or what in the hell is going on?

Honestly, I think Coach O has faith in him just as he had faith in Dennis Johnson, and Frank Wilson when at Ole Miss. Hopefully it works out like Frank did.

Frank and O are close friends. I would imagine he consulted frank on this hire.

I don't know how many assistant coaches from Memphis have turned down an offer from LSU. This might be the first time.

An assistant coach from Memphis turned down an offer from LSU.

/end sarcasm.

This is why I love/hate this board. The majority of you have no idea why changes are being made, and you think that you know better than the coaching staff on who should be hired/fired. We have a board full of people that should be running the show at LSU and making 5+ million per year.

I love those who complain bout others being all knowing and wise when that is exactly what they are doing.

If you see nothing odd bout a R coach turning down LSU, considering the talent difference, money, and what is played for between LSU and Memphis, so be it. I do.

I neither love nor hate this forum. It is what it is....a bunch of guys, mainly, who have nothing better to do with our time than post on an internet message forum.

I don't think it's far fetched that Johnson may not want to move his family not to mention his loyalty to Norvell. Is it odd? Yes. But who's to say we didn't get our guy? Only time will tell...

I'm trying hard not to melt. All of that assistant money goes to a guy whose career peak is a rb coach at Louisiana Tech. Ehhh

Well his little brother (Vance) is the head coach of the Denver Broncos ....

Mickey also quarterbacked Shaw to their only state title

He also played qb for the Nebraska cornhuskers

And went on to impregnate Tom Osbornes daughter ...
