I hit my growth spurt the summer between 9th & 10th grades. So in 9th grade high school football I'm that kid getting run over. LOL. But just like this little kid and UNLIKE auburn's DBs, I tried anyways.

My father in law passed away in July and when we were going through his belongings we found a hand written thank you letter from Herby. My brother in law and him were buddies in high school. They both played for Centerville.

Everyone just needs to get over Collins. Woulda, coulda, shoulda....we'll never know what Collins could have been, but with Fornette, we'll have our greatest hope since Billy Cannon.
Not only that but we know what Collins "could have been"
He got a second shot and played some NFL ball. In the NFL he was decent but not spectacular. Fournette earlier in his soph season has impressed enough to where most experts think he could start for any team in the NFL. He's being compared to Bo, Herschel, AP, etc.
Collins didn't show that type of greatness in the NFL

LF7 in two games into his year 2 @ LSU, a Lot of Football to be played.

Cecil didnt have Leonard's feet either.
If my memory is correct, I also believe Cecil played at around 210 lbs. LF is substantially bigger than Collins.

Collins could hit the switch and be in bed sleep before it got dark

What a load of bullshite, I get so sick of reading that crap.
Collins played in all of 4 games, only one of which was against anyone good, #12 Auburn, and while he ran for 232 yards on 25 carries, LSU still lost the game. I was at that game and saw Collins play. I also was in the stadium many times as an LSU student watching Dalton Hilliard play. Dalton was a better all-around back. Dalton also went up against some of the best teams in college football at the time, something Collins never got to do because he was an idiot.
Here are the teams against which Collins played while at LSU:
State (Okay, so he ran for a 90 yard TD or whatever with one shoe)
#12 Auburn
Akron
Vandy
LSU fans were so desperate at the time for a great team, they put all their hopes on Collins and built him up to be better than he was. And now the legend has just taken on a life of its own.
Was he good? Sure. Was he the best at LSU? Not by a long shot. Hilliard, Faulk and Fournette are just three that were better than Collins.
I wish people would let that creep disappear into the obscurity that he deserves.

I'll admit it...I was one who was down on Fournette's Heisman chances. Never because the guy isn't crazy talented, but because even if he put up huge numbers he'd be splitting time with other quality backs and he simply wouldn't get enough touches to really dominate. Not enough to make those special plays that seem to define a season for a Heisman winner.
Unfortunately I still believe this will hold true. Miles isn't going to run LF into the ground all year, he will sub in the other good backs we have (as he should IMO) so LF wont get near the carries/yards needed to beat out guys like Boykin from TCU or Elliott from OSU.
I also think Chubb is in a similar situation at UGA but he will get more carries than LF since UGA really only splits carries with one other RB - Michel. I think LF and Chubb are by far the 2 best RBs and likely the 2 best players period in CFB although I think LF is the better RB of the 2 but not by a lot.

The total amount of yards gained by LF this year isn't anywhere close to as important as LSU's team success when it comes to Heisman voting. Last year Melvin Gordon had the second best single season for a running back EVER (only behind Barry Sanders). Yet, he was a VERY distant second to Mariotta in the Heisman voting. The reason is simple. Oregon was the Pac 10 champ and #2 seed in the Playoffs while Wisconsin was a 9-3 team fresh off of a huge beatdown vs. OSU.
Mariotta was a great player and deserving of the Heisman but the fact that he received 90% of the possible points in the voting (doubling Gordon's %) shows you just how important is to (a) be a QB and (b) have team success. The award should be renamed to "the best player on the best teams" LF missed a game with the McNeese cancellation. He will likely not finish as the leading rusher in CFB for that reason alone. Nonetheless, if LSU is the SEC champ at the end of the season LF (assuming he continues to produce) will be in NYC with a good chance to win. On the flip side, he could have 100 yard games the rest of the year, but if LSU finishes 8-3 his chances of winning will be minimal.

Obvious troll. No one who has seen both play would ever seriously make this statement. Collins didn't have the speed ,size or agility of LF.
