“Due to personal matters, I have decided to step away from the position of Assistant Director of Bands / Director of Tiger Band at LSU," Jones said.

He has a child that is about a year old now. I also gather that he will remain a professor--so maybe he really does just want to step away from the band and work as faculty only?

Is it really worth speculating over? The guy wasn’t good and is being replaced by another guy who isn’t good.

Do we know for sure who his replacement going to be?

In-house promotion.

Yes, if there was any sort of scandal he’d be immediately fired from LSU and this story would be a lot bigger.
But this does reveal something about tgbftl under the SOM. The bulk of Jones’s income is from being a professor. He’s likely just getting a “stipend” to direct the band.
Tiger Band Director is now considered a part-time job for a music professor. Jones would not have stepped away so casually had it been otherwise.

GOOD RIDDANCE - they were a woke POS. The quality of the tiger band has greatly diminished.
3 posts,...thats about the avg before someone turns the conversation into some idealogical or political conversation

Incorrect.....100% of his salary comes from the athletic department.

Maybe/maybe not......It is very common to "allow" someone to resign and "move on" in lieu of being fired. Especially if the person being "dismissed" was a bragging point for the school (first black athletic band director of an SEC school).

Exactly.

UPDATE: An Attorney that is a big LSU and GBFTL fan has been contacted.
He agrees in principal to our opinions about the decline of the program and the hiring practice. (LSU not opening it up and conducting a National Search for a GBFTL Director, instead of just promoting an Assistant)
We have had in-depth discussions about everything that has been discussed in this thread and he is now fully aware of the LSU School of Music/Department of Bands/GBFTL/LSUAD NON-ALIGNMENT. (Said Attorney called it that, borrowing the line from Brain Kelly)
This matter falls under the category of "Employment Law" and he is currently consulting with other Attorneys that are experts in that area of practice. (EL is not his area of specialty) but he such a big LSU fan and agrees with our "Complaint" that he is helping us in moving forward in this matter.
We have another meeting scheduled for Friday and I will UPDATE then.
IF THERE ARE ANY TIGER BAND ALUMS ON HERE THAT WOULD LIKE TO BE INCLUDED IN THE PROCESS AND BECOME MORE ACTIVELY INVOLVED THAN JUST POSTING AN OPINION HERE ON THE RANT, PLEASE SEND ME AN EMAIL. (LSUbandgrad875@gmail.com)
THE SAID ATTORNEY SUGGESTED THAT WE FORM A SMALL GROUP OF TBA's TO UNIFY AND SOLIDLIFY SUPPORT OF THE CAUSE.....

They will soon discover there is nothing they can do (legally) about this travesty. LSU will circle the wagons and protect everyone involved. The "only" way to get to these a$$holes is to create a public relations nightmare for them. "Looking bad" in the media means more than anything else to these jacka$$e$.

LSU recently hired a new Dean at the College of Music & Dramatic Arts who’s an LSU alumnus and former member of TGBFTL under Frank Wickes. This can’t be a bad thing right?
Eric was a year behind me when I was a music student at LSU. He’s a damn good musician and has proven to also be a strong administrator. He was in TGBFTL and will have much more of an appreciation of it than previous SoM admins.
Anyone who studied under Wickes and Linda knows TGBFTL isn’t where it needs to be right now. I’m glad to see Tate brining in someone who was at LSU when the SoM and band program were both much stronger than they are today to put them back on track.

Imagine the sound of a 400 member GBFTL with just Brass and Percussion in Tiger Stadium!
That will never happen. LSU’s strength as a music program was always music education and TGBFTL is a huge part of that. They will never abandon woodwinds because that seriously hurts music ed recruiting.

Scott doesn't hire the band director. He doesn't know anything about the music department.
Musicians don't fall under his authority at all.

If Tigerband were still part of the athletic dept, it wouldn't be outside of his scope. Heck, Huey Long hired Castro Carazo.

My son is in the band. He tells me this new guy is vastly more qualified to run TGBFTL than Kelvin Jones. The band members never thought much of Kelvin.
