Terrible idea.....the last thing we need is for the state legislature to start passing laws that tell LSU Athletics what to do with football games. LSU has these games scheduled when they are because LSU WANTS THOSE GAMES SCHEDULED AT THOSE TIMES. ALL LSU NEEDS TO DO IS SAY NO (and not accept the TV money/contracts). It is deceptive for anyone at LSU (including Woodward) to put the blame for day games on anyone but LSU.
Let me guess....they will make a stick figure with a large hand...and it will "sort of" move while they play Billie Jean. BTW, most of the stadium will not be able to hear it because the band currently has no power (compared to the LSU bands of the past). The cartoonish approach to their shows coupled with poorly played music has become VERY boring.

PLEASE DO A BETTER JOB. GET MORE BRASS SO THE BAND SOUNDS LIKE/AS GOOD AS THE OTHER BANDS IN THE SEC. MOST OF THE BANDS IN THE SEC ARE MUCH LOUDER THAN LSU.....WHY??

OK....you are crazy.

I think BK is an above average coach but I’m not sure he’ll ever get a title here. But if Orgeron and Miles can…there’s def a chance. But it will take another year or two.

I agree that Kelly is a good coach.....However, the critique of Kelly at ND that he could not win the big games (not going to win a NC) may be accurate. Think what you want...either support Kelly through what seems to be a downward trend or not, we can only hope those who make these decisions are up to the task.

Is there a point you’re trying to get across

The point is there are serious problems with this team in Kelly's 3rd season! There are many people who are already lowering expectations. I think we should be raising expectations considering this is LSU and considering how much $$ we are paying this coaching staff. Question......in Kelly's third year, are we seeing an upward trend in the program from year 1?

USC was ranked..... please expand on these " stories ".

I stand corrected....they were ranked 23rd.....not what you would call an impressive number.....but ranked. Simple question.....would you feel good if LSU finished the season ranked 23rd?

did you watch South Carolina? their talent on defense was very impressive, were flying all over the field...Columbia is also a difficult place to play.

Really? South Carolina looks to be a well-coached team. The reality is that we should have lost that game....two undeniable reasons.....the bogus blindside block on Nuss that took 6 points off the board PLUS their QB injury. If you take one or both of those away, LSU loses that game! Don't misunderstand, I'm glad LSU walked out with the win.....I'm just being realistic about the current status of our team.

Yeah, Southern Cal and South Carolina in Columbia are total cake walks.

The frick is wrong with some of you

My, My, My......how we have "adjusted" our expectations! This reminds me of the LSU defenses who used to "high-five" one another when they stopped a running play on first down after an eight-yard gain! Lowering expectations (for someone making $10 million/year) will not have a positive impact on the LSU football program.

Are you kidding?? We have not played a ranked opponent...and won't until October 12th.

Yes...a realistic fan...asking real questions about a 10 million dollar/year coach who is at a school with seemingly unlimited resources who has a defense many are calling a "rebuilding year."

LSU will "probably" beat UCLA....and then go on to beat South Alabama. There will be a lot of people who will look at these next two "easy" wins and PROCLAIM that all of LSU's problems have been "fixed." We cannot determine if ANY of LSU's issues are "fixed" until we play a quality opponent. But there will be some on this board who will be shouting from the rooftops that "Kelly has fixed everything and LSU is now in the hunt for the National Championship." The negative "stories" that are emerging about Kelly are just the beginning (who knows if they are actually true). However, most of the time, where there's smoke, there's fire. One thing is certainly true.....today's college football players are very different from those 10-20 years ago. "Most" (not all) are mercenaries.....pay me what I want or I'm headed to the transfer portal. Is it "possible" that Kelly is not as good as some think when it comes to handling these mercenaries? I guess we will see.

I just thought it was worth mentioning that the SOM is now being run by someone with ties to the band program.

I hope you are right. However, the people who gave the "seal of approval" to hire Eric are also the same people who DO NOT want anything to change (since they are also responsible for the current problems).....Jane Cassidy, Jim Byo, etc,..... and most of all......the applied faculty who hate the band department AND evaluate the dean/Eric (which determines if he gets to keep his job). I'm sorry to say that I am not optimistic.

But people have to realize the point of the School of Music was to destroy the Frank Wickes lineage so they could control the band how they wanted so that was never going to happen. Plus Spurlin knows what's going on and is too smart to get involved in that.

quote:

Would someone mind explaining this saga in detail to someone who has zero information about any of this?

The school of music did everything they could to demoralize Frank Wickes at the end of his career. They embarrassed him by forcing him to apologize to students for demanding excellence, they admonished Roy and Linda for organizing a retirement celebration for Frank Wickes, they stole the band's scholarships, they stole the proceeds from the band's Tigerama concert, etc, etc, etc. At one point, they forced Linda to "reapply" for her position - had her interview - then hired someone else (John LaCognata in 1993) - then were forced to rehire Linda when the new guy did not work out (in 1995). The school of music obtained funding for a renovation from the state legislature (which featured the construction of a new band facility), only to remove the band portion after it was approved. And the list goes on and on.
Here is what really happened......As soon as Frank retired, the school of music "stole" the "Tiger Band Honors" scholarships from the Tiger Band. These scholarships brought in very talented non-music major students to the Tiger Band from out-of-state. But that was not enough for the school of music....they also "stole" the Tiger Band's budget....that fight is what got Roy fired. Nearly every out-of-state Tiger Band student was on this scholarship. The school of music (with the assistance of the upper administration) are corrupt. Yes, some of these a$$holes are now gone, but some (Damon Talley) are still there.
quote:

Full band only goes to one game a year.

Except, when the kick-off classic games started, they went on two full band trips!
I'm not surprised, considering what Damon Talley's priorities are. He hates the Tiger Band (he was heard saying that).
quote:

In fact, you could argue that it began its decline as soon as Damon Talley got his hands on them.

Very True!!!

quote:

Why would the upper administration automatically side with the SOM?

Because the "academic" types (the SOM & Administration) are the elites. The athletic department is considered uneducated morons and as such, are not smart enough to be in their "club." Also, remember that the rest of the university spends all day and all night, 24/7, dreaming up ways to get their hands on the athletic department's money!

The solution is simple here. Move Tiger Band back under the control of the athletics department.

I agree with this.

How do we make it happen?

I doubt this will happen....School of Music + Upper Administration VS Woodward = Woodward losses.

re: Full or Pep Band in Vegas

Posted by LSUFanLazenby on 6/16/24 at 11:36 am to
Here's how it works.....Athletics gives the band department/school of music ($100.00), then Damon Talley/Dean of the school of music decides to spend ($60.00).....result: the LSU School of Music then spends ($40.00) on ANYTHING they want in the School of Music (not stuff for Tiger Band). Does everyone finally get what's going on here? Athletics is powerless to do anything about it because the upper administration has "mandated" those funds go to the School of Music each year (for distribution to the "Tiger Band"). The administration knows the School of Music does NOT return unused funds back to athletics (thus padding the School of Music's budget). This results in the LSU administration allocating fewer funds to the School of Music because of the "unused" Tiger Band funds. THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO THE TIGER BAND.

Please remember this......Athletics is funding everything related to Tiger Band. Those funds are sent to the school of music/band department. Damon Talley (with the Dean's approval) decides HOW those funds are spent. If anyone is to blame, it's Damon Talley and the school of music!! FACT.
Statement and a question......
Roy King took every member of the Tiger Band to Dublin Ireland AND the cost to each student was $0. What are the chances Damon Talley will be able to do the same? My prediction is that ONLY a 30-45 piece pep band will travel to Dublin accompanied by Damon Talley and his entire family. What are your thoughts?
