LSU said no to the demands that A&M said yes to.

10 years guaranteed.

This...and probably the timing.

Whether you agree or disagree with the decision, LSU wasn't going to pay $7.5 million. A&M agreed to pay it for 10 years! That's a huge number. Particularly if he doesn't make them a national championship contender almost immediately.

Plus, you have to ask how much of it was genuine interest in LSU vs. a pure leverage play? In 2015 Fisher was 2 years removed from the NC and has returned to the play-offs the year before. Certainly he had reason demand a huge salary and the recent success to justify it. LSU had a significant offer out to Fisher at the end of 2015. If he wanted to be the LSU coach he could have. He didn't

In 2016 it appears LSU's "search" was limited to one person, Tom Herman. Once he decided to go to Texas Alleva petulently rushed to the podium with a guy he could have paid $2 million less that the $3.5 mill he's making AND would have been available the week before the 2017 kickoff.

Fast forward to 2017 and Fisher is in the midst of a disappointing .500 season AND A&M is willing to guarantee $75 mill. On the other hand, FSU had probably grown tired of 2-3 years of being leveraged.

Bottom line -- I don't think Fisher ever truly wanted to be at LSU unless LSU made a offer he simply couldn't turn down (like a guaranteed $75 mill). LSU wasn't going to do that AND pay Les a significant sum to NOT coach. A&M paid a king's ransom to get Fisher.

I'm not aggravated LSU didn't get Fisher. The aggravation is that they spent two years planning to get rid of Miles and in the end overpaid a guy no one else in America wanted.

IF LSU would have given him the contract that A&M did, i would think they were dumber than what they are already perceived to be.

Uh what? His recruiting at A&M fricking sucks. Their class is currently ranked #35. For reference, Kentucky finished at #29 last season

Jimbo will do well for a few years but no way they don't regret that contract in about 5 or 6 years. Jimbo has a lot of Matt Canada in him. He will burn out while he wears on people. He's a great coach but not a 10 year solution.

With the way he left his last program at Fla.State I'm glad he is NOT LSU's coach.

Loaded with talent is a bad way to leave a program?? A legitimate Heisman Candidate @ QB is a bad way to leave a program? *Sigh*

Jimbo's demands were so ridiculous Alleva thought he wasn't serious. Then we heard that Fisher was going to get rid of Aranda, which I question because Fisher came after Aranda.

Fisher isn’t a “yes man.”

For that reason the attempt to get him was weak, if not a cover for no attempt at all.

Not a fan of alleva but I wouldn't have given jimbo a 10 yr.,7.5 million/year contract either, that is a death penalty. Only one guy is worth that kind of contract. Don't assume I'm an O pumper either, I didn't care for the hire, especially the amount/year and guarantee money given to O.
