re: Hard to get excited about any player coming when they're only there for the money, not LSU

bruh, don't kid yourself... money has always played a part in major CFB recruiting... it's just now there no safety rails in place and all the negotiations/payments/etc. are made above the table, for the most part...
but let's not act like we haven't been paying players for at least the last 25-30 years

I'm an old timer as well, but long gone are those Rodrigues boys from Thibodaux, Bert from Ruston, etc. A safe bet is that almost every Power 5 team is now stocked the same way. The numbers are higher but playing for money vs the Purple & Gold is just a fading memory.

I’ll never have a hard time cheering for LSU, and will always watch college football, which is still great entertainment, regardless of the influx of NIL $$.
But yeah, the school loyalty thing is as dead as the Dodo bird.

It's not your money.
This is now a billionaires and millionaires game.
Relax and just enjoy the show.

So you don't watch any pro sports at all?
Posted on 1/12/26 at 6:41 pm to homemadeshine
Time for the billionaires to take over. G League all of them. Put them in a farm system like baseball.
Let these broken colleges actually focus 100% on actual education not professional sports.
College sports are broken.

and exactly which blue chip players stayed in Louisiana and didn't get paid or transferred here in the Miles days and didnt' get paid for it? much less the Orgeron days?
How many more anti-NIL...
"Good ole days"
posts are you going to make? The idea of the "student-athlete" has been a sham for 20 years now.
Hell, college in general is mostly a sham now. I struggled at LSU my freshman year, joined the military, came back and graduated and I can tell you...
It's not what you think it is. It's 13 - 17 grade now. EVERYONE passes. It's a joke.

I’m still cheering for LSU but yeah CFB is almost unrecognizable from what it was 4-5 years ago. I will still be happy when we get the big transfers like we did today because that’s the world we live in - doesn’t mean I don’t long for it to go back to the way it was. Where for the most part the guys on the team were your guys. Transfers were few and far between and came with a penalty if you weren’t a grad. The joy of watching guys develop and grow on the team for a few years far exceeds the joy of watching a 1 year player coming in and playing
Example I will use for the last sentence - Mansore Delane just won the Thorpe award and it barely moved the needle for me as being proud or happy. He was a finished product when he arrived. In my mind not going to be anywhere close to the Tre Whites and Mo Claibornes for example

Other schools pay money as well. Often times higher offers than ours. Players have also always been paid. They’re still picking LSU over other schools.
Stop with the “back in my day” crap and enjoy the ride.

It’s a frickin job you nitwit. Imagine working anywhere for drastically less money when someplace else is offering you more doing the exact same thing and nicer benefits. Maybe you really are that dumb- and the owner of the company laughing all the way to the bank. Retards I swear

I agree totally, but unfortunately the young, jobless, keyboard punching idiots on this site, rule the tone. They like, “pay me for nothing”, and “you owe me”, because they’ve never worked for a fricking thing in their life!! That’s the true issue my friend!!!

It will ALWAYS be different from the NFL because the players have a choice of who they want to sign with. In the NFL they have the draft. Yes, they have free agency but it’s not the same. I didn’t like it at first but the last 2-3 years I’m starting to get back into it. You just have to realize where the priorities are now. Older players who have proven production. It’s not all HS recruiting anymore. Which LSU is adapting to and will put their own spin on it. LSU will ALWAYS have the structure in place to succeed in CFB. They just need a coach to get the mix right.

Ill call you a dumbass cause that's what 90% of your threads are..

Grow up. Maybe we can just recruit from Central and Zachary. You want ti win? Play the game as the game is played.
Posted on 1/12/26 at 6:51 pm to homemadeshine
I don't care what they make, just like I don't care if they get hurt and never play again.
Like the pro's, it's all just entertainment.

Homemade shine I hear ya, been LSU since 65. But not all the kids are like that, money sure but some also get into the history and tradition. Check out the Elon QBs interview with Scone, he mentioned Tiger Stadium and the great tradition that he wants to be a part of. He's done some research.

I am old school and feel the same way however it could be multiple things. Everyone wants to get paid like their friends so I cant fault them for getting market value. The market will eventually reset itself like it does in a capitalist economy. But I think now a kid sees where they can win and get paid and to some extent the culture of the team.

There are a lot of schools that are full of 2/3 star players that love their local university... You've probably never heard of them, though.
The game has changed for better or worse.
Fwiw, there was a young man named Joe Burrow who carried our state on his back with pride, embraced our culture, and became one of us.
Contrarily, there have been a ton of Louisiana kids who spurned us and went to rivals.
