I absolutely agree with this. Not a McMahon fan but will always hope and pull for the Tigers to win. The thing I love about the start of a new season is that hope springs eternal even without any evidence supporting it. I watched the exhibition game and we looked quite good. Of course that is always the case but this year we actually played a fairly good team in UCF. I have learned never to judge a McMahon team until we hit the SEC. That's when we find out if winning against cupcakes equals wins against quality opponents who will hustle and play great defense.

I found this summary of the exhibition game against UCF. They look to have better pieces this year. They fell behind by double digits and came back to win.

Nwoko was scoring in the low post and rebounding very well. We look to have better PG play and McKinnon appears to be an effective outside shooter with basketball smarts. There were a number of defensive breakdowns, but we seem to have better players and are deeper this year.

I don’t think UCF is very good, 7-12 in conf and a 12th place finish in the big-12 last year, also got plastered by 25 the week prior to playing us but our PG looked good and the perimeter shooting by the new wings was encouraging. Don’t think you can take a lot from the game other than at least we beat a below average bunch which is better than losing.

Exactly. But I felt we had a better shot in most sec when he coach than MM. that should prove we need a new HC

Eh...there were individual moments of good, but I wouldn't say they looked "quite good".

UCF is picked to finish 14th (of 16) in the Big 12. I would say, based on preseason expectations, UCF is comprisable to LSU. Still, it was a road "win" (neither team played like it was exhibition game).

In short, there were some things you saw to make you believe this team may be improved from last year. But there were also some of the same issues than have been there in all of McMahon's 3 seasons.

When I said a fairly good team, it was in relation to prior year exhibition opponents - Louisiana Christian a couple of seasons ago and Loyola New Orleans last year. UCF is at least a major league college and probably three or four times tougher than those teams.

Did you not read my post? I said hope springs eternal even with no evidence to support it. UCF is a fairly good team compared to Louisiana Christian and Loyola New Orleans which were our previous exhibition opponents. I also said you couldn't judge until SEC games?

Just pointing out that UCF isn’t good. Maybe you mistook them for a different team, I sometimes do that with the Florida schools outside of the big 3. Didn’t disagree with being hopeful and I didn’t know you were comparing them to those other schools because you didn’t mention them.

We are bigger at the 2 and 3 than previous years and have a legit point guard who could be one of the best in the conference.

Really need to work hard on defense.

I just hope zipper plays at some point.

This isn’t the first time we’ve had bizarre absences under McMahon’s tenure and, to make things worse, not much reasoning or explanation behind it.

Remember when McMahon claimed he couldn’t find a good time to get Tyrell Ward in the game when he began as a true freshman? Or cook, who I suppose was an issue independent of McMahon, but now we have another guy who mysteriously isn’t playing…
It’d be different if zipper were a third-stringer (maybe he is but I doubt it), but I think he should help this team. And the preseason projections suggest we need ad much help as we can get
I expect to see Zipper, but it wouldn't be bizarre to not see him with McKinnon and King. Unless he is more of a point? Are you just picking someone who didn't play in a preseason game?

And there was nothing mysterious about Cook. He was intelligible then later noped out on everyone. And I am pretty sure Ward played in 20 games his freshman year and admitted that he came in way behind.

He has had trouble getting acclimated to this level of basketball defensively. Thats the issue. He isnt close to playing currently

He is 22 years old. Defense = physicality. If he isn't physically capable to compete with guys he's as old if not older than, he is a wasted roster spot.

He has a lot of potential but was very raw last year. Saying he is "very good" is a stretch unless he's taken a big jump in the McOffseason
