I’m sold that McMahon can succeed here with a complete and complementary roster — my sole question is whether he can put that roster together.

I feel the exact same way.

But to respond to more of the thread in general- UNT is a better team than LSU. And is very likely better coached. Period. They lost the last game, we didn't win it. Their best players shot terribly from the field. It wasn't going to happen again. Plus, they are much better than their record indicates as they dealt with a lot of injuries in conference play.

Wilkinson participated in Senior night activities whereas Fountain, also a Senior, didn’t. So I think it’s reasonable to assume he’s moving on. It’s also hard to see Cook coming back given he essentially got kicked off the team.

Wilkinson is gone. He's transferring or calling it quits on his career.

Fountain is staying. I highly, highly doubt he leaves. Coach Long baptized him ffs. He has an LSU tattoo. I don't think he's going anywhere.

Hell yeah! They won the NIT last year. UNT is becoming a new blue blood basketball school.

From 2-16 to 9-9 in arguably the best conference in the country this year that sent 8 teams dancing...

Most of y'all thought we would only win 4-5 conference games at best..

There's a lot of reasons you are wrong.

This plus a few solid portal guys is a pretty good roster assuming some development from the returning players.

This stuck out to me like a sore thumb last night. North Texas moved the ball efficiently, got (and made) high quality shots, kept LSU's defense on their heals the entire game, and played physical defense without fouling. All of those are things that LSU has failed to do consistently all year. In fact, I would say there's maybe 1 or 2 games this year where we played an entire game doing those things. So then the question is either North Texas has much better players or a much better coach. If the players are better its certainly not because their coach recruited elite high school talent or even got elite level talent in the portal. Either their coach is that much better of a coach than McMahon, is that much better at developing players, or both. Either way, what we're getting from a coaching perspective is simply not enough right now, and last night highlighted that

The McMen nut huggers will blame the previous coach. Wait until next year is another common refrain. Well, I am still waiting.

Reed is the biggest waste of 6’10” I’ve ever seen. How he can have ZERO rebounds is amazing. And I love Hannibal but having. PG with no outside shot is an offensive liability. Rebounding and PG will be huge portal needs next year. Hope he can find them .

This coach isn't worth a shite, won't win shite, and will put our program further in the hole.

You just said there's a lot of reasons he's wrong. You listed one that is kind of shitty. Where are any good reasons he's wrong? Being invited to the NIT is like saying you have a chance to be one of the smartest retards in the room. Losing first round in the NIT means you suck

Our weakness is teams that can shoot extremely well. We didn't win many games this year where the other team was shooting the ball extremely well as 3pt defense was a glaring weakness in our game. I agree they are physical, but I also think there were a plethora of missed calls. Those refs were fricking terrible. That being said, unless it's extremely egregious I don't like blaming the refs.

They don't have the more talented team. They have the more skilled team. Skill and talent are not the same thing. They are also better coached and also have good fit.

Our team's fit this year was fricking terrible. We had good enough players to make the NCAAT but our fit was just abysmal.

UNT won the NIT last year and beat a couple Power 5 teams to do so.

Trying to gauge a performance in a freaking NIT game as evidence of ANYTHING seems the height of folly.
