Then go do something else?

There are like a million things to do. You aren't changing college athletics.

If you'd like to change college athletics, work your way up and get into a position in which you have some sway. That means basically being a conference commissioner.

Good luck.

Unmitigated bullshite! He said obvious applause type lines. BIG frickING DEAL! What you failed to mention was that he LIED about who gave Fisher the huge contract and he LIED about LA taxpayers being on the line for $53 million. He also tried to demagogue about sports agents being one of the main problems in contracts. They are NOT the problem. The problem are the ADs who give the money to the coaches.

Your post was UTTER CRAP and little more than political propaganda for Landry. Are you his campaign manager?

None of these are the issue.

He can hold whatever opinion he'd like. You don't say that shite publicly or the world to hear. You keep your family disputes inside your house.

What he said was correct, but the time and place was an epic failure!

People who say he needs to butt out need to study how Louisiana government is set up. He is doing his job.

He needs to do the same considering he keeps talking about how taxpayers are paying the buyouts for these coaches.

Landry is actually an embarrassment to the state of Louisiana. I can’t believe people voted this swamp rat trapper. I think he put a noose around his neck with his meddling into LSU business for reelection. What an idiot.

Maybe so, but WTF does that have to do with him? How is this high on his priority list?

Not to mention that multiple things he said aren't even accurate.

He made a spectacle of LSU Athletics to get attention.

Its embarrassing for the state, and anyone defending it has the tact of a 4 year old

Isn't that what he said?

I'd suggest totaling up that shortfall on State sourced funds and Interagency transfer revenues on the LSU's OP budget and compare it to Kelly's buyout

Go fight that battle at a G-5 school opening. The LSU head coaching search is not the right place to fight that. His statements insinuate that LSU will now be at a disadvantage when trying to hire a proven coach and retain one that proves themselves as the coach of LSU because other schools in the SEC aren't playing by the same rules. If LSU starts to slip and the fans stop showing up, then the university will lose a lot more money than what a premier coach would make.

You can't be cool with free market and then turn around and be mad about it. The average annual salary for an SEC coach is $8.7M. Here's your list:

Kirby - 13.3M (always in playoffs)
Sark - 10.8M (in playoffs last year)
DeBoer - 10.25M (probably in playoffs this year)
Kelly - 10.17M (fired)
Kiffin - 9M (playoff bound)
Drink - 9M (might end up with his 3rd double-digit win season in a row at Mizzou)
Heupel - 9M (playoffs last year)
Stoops - 9M (will be fired)
Beamer - 8.15M (just missed playoffs last year)
Venables - 7.5M (close to being fired)
Napier - 7.4M (fired)
Elko - 7M (if he makes playoffs will probably get bumped to 9M+)
Pittman - 6.8M (fired)
Freeze - 6.7M (about to be fired)
Lebby - 4.35M (first time HC at crap program)
Lea - 3.7M (this will go up alot after this year, but almost fired before Pavia)

Your least paid coaches in the SEC (bottom half) are SC, OU, UF, aTm, Arky, AU, Moo St., and Vandy. 2 of the 8 have coaches that will be getting big raises and 6 have either fired their coach or will in the next year or so. This is the group LSU will be in.

Landry is governor of the state of Louisiana, and as such, like the captain of the ship. While the pilfering of frozen strawberries from the galley on board said ship ultimately falls on him as captain, the job for which he is mostly held accountable for is the ship itself, and when the ship is in tumultuous waters and at risk of running aground, it’s not the time to write a memo to those on board obsessing over the frozen strawberries and opening up an investigation into what individual is chiefly responsible for stealing the strawberries.

Louisiana is a hot mess, and this only makes him look unplugged from that which he was elected to fix. It was not LSU football.

Gov. Landry needs to stay as far away from LSU athletics as possible— he’s a politician— high odds that he is guaranteed to screw things up.
Let the AD & TAF deal with this most critical time in LSU football history.
Missed on Kelly — but he will get the a coach that we all want. And checks all the boxes.

the overpaid coaches

The free market dictated the coaching salaries. It was your love for the sport and demand that your favorite team be the best that inflated the coaching salaries.

NIL and the transfer portal

The NCAA has lost most of the legal battles over these issues time after time in multiple courts. Perhaps that suggests the NCAA's restrictions prohibiting players from compensating for others profiting off the players NIL, and allowing players the freedom to choose where they attend school without penalty may have been unlawful.

Perhaps. The market will bear that out.

quote:

He is doing his job.

By doing what exactly? Ensuring that tax dollars to pay for the exorbitant costs of LSU athletics....when tax dollars ALREADY don't pay for the exorbitant costs of athletics?

The coaching salaries will already be paid, in large part, by private donations. NIL is paid by private money, or through fees charged for attending LSU athletics...of which no one is FORCED to attend (unlike where we have to pay taxes by mandate of law). LSU athletics is a multi-million dollar revenue generating entity of its own independent from any taxes that go to the university.

He's doing nothing more than virtue signaling about "fighting for the taxpayer" when there's no actual fight to be had.
