Good win, but OL is horrible and if Brad Davis isn't to blame, then who is?

We played a tomato can that took the bus over the day of the game and we destroyed them, as expected. That said, their DL destroyed our offensive line and were often untouched going into the backfield. Let's not forget, they are an FCS school and there were times the OL completely missed the defensive lineman, and other times, they just bull rushed right over our guys.

I agree Davis is a great recruiter, but if you can't make them better players, then landing a 4 or 5 star recruit is useless. I think he's in his fourth year and he's had more than enough time to get things turned around. We finished dead last in rushing last year and that was with 4 players that were drafted into the NFL. This year is the same story with the run game, and once again, we get no push at the line and the defense easily shuts down our running game.

I watched the entire game and not once did he light into the OL for missing a block or getting bull rushed. At this point, we're overpaying for an assistant coach and several highly ranked OL and getting nothing in return.

The reality is now we begin to play the tough teams in the SEC that currently have a 21-5 record overall, including 4 SEC teams that are still undefeated a month into the season. If the OL doesn't make vast improvements immediately, this season could go south really quickly!

I think it's way past time Davis earns his pay and gets these guys performing at a much higher level, or it's time to show him the door!

I wonder if BK feels some sort of obligation to Davis since he held the team together after O was fired. But you’re right, the OL has not shown much improvement technically

He hasn't recruited jack shite; just a bunch 4* and 5* Kardell Thomas types that dominated in high school, but are overmatched mentally and physically at LSU. Overmatched and then poorly coached is a recip

They still can't run block for shite. It's a Total Mystery as to why he survived after last season and why he's still here.

We're at the point now where a short term sacrifice has to be made in order for long term success to happen.

He has to GO!

I'm sure BK9.9 has enough contacts to get an OL Coach in here to finish the season. Frick, let Mawae and Whitworth come in to clean it up for the duration. It can't get any worse and all that Pro-Bowl OL experience could reap immediate benefits a la Kyle Williams............

I agree with your feelings for lack of development under Davis. Scheme also plays a huge part in this. We have nothing to move the eyes of the LBs in our scheme and it is a straight up iso one cut run game. Very frustrating.

As far as the gauntlet you’re talking about, we still don’t know a whole lot about most of these teams. SC= taken a step back and Sellers hasn’t developed, A&M beat ND but who is ND actually?, Vandy looked legit at times last year too but got lit up by the mighty GA State, Ole Piss looked like their defense didn’t even have a pulse until yesterday. OU is a one man show like we were with JD5 but maybe worse even though their D might be for real. There’s just too many question marks for everyone to act like we’re dead to rights because teams are 4-0 right now playing the Minnesota school of the blind for the most part.

An LSU OL should be able to push an FCS school all over the place even when telling them which hole the next play will attack. Giving up multiple sacks is a disgrace.

We will spend more money on the OL in the portal but he still won’t be able to coach them up. We have at least 2 more years until we see some semblance of a running game

I agree; I watched the Right Tackle all night on TV, and it was rarely pretty.

I suspect Arkansas will fire Pittman after their last game at the latest, but we probably won't look at coaching changes untill January. I wonder how that timing could work out.

I kinda feel sorry for BK- he had a Heisman QB but a terrible Defense that kept him out of contention, and now that it seems he's got the D fixed, he has a great pocket QB but the OL is going to be what keeps him from a championship.

Just can't seem to get the stars aligned all at once. And with Baker getting recognized now, might he have head coaching aspirations, so BK might have to start all over on D?

We have no evidence of this, at least with respect to current offensive linemen. I have no idea if any of these guys have talent. They have not displayed any to date.

So… you feel sorry for the man who fired Blake Baker & Corey Raymond and replaced them with two losers, so our defense sucked while we had JD.

And… after he fixed the defense instead of replacing Denbrock with a legit, experienced OC, he promoted a guy with virtually no experience, and retained an O-line coach that just can’t properly teach run blocking, so our offense seems disjointed and we can’t run effectively.

Got it.

The announcers last night actually pointed out issues with the RB’s not seeing the holes… they were spot on

Isn’t this EXACTLY what Brian Kelly was famous for before he got hired at LSU?

We were warned about him right here on this board.

Recruiting isn’t good. I watched one of the players in high school that is starting on the OL. In high school he was big, slow, and lazy. The young man is who he is, it’s not his fault LSU recruited him. He’s not D1.

If the defense continues to shine, Baker is as good as gone. I hate it for BK, too. If it ain’t one thing, then it’s another.

And I agree that Davis gets abused at tackle but the only lineman that has played above average is Adams. We are an O line away from a championship but next year it will be something else.

There was a reason Brad Davis had many jobs before this one. Now you are seeing it when you don't have Jayden daniels escapability at QB. I fear with him at OL coach we will not get better as the season goes. I mean look at last year we were terrible on the OL as well.

Agree but at the same time the play calling with our running is not good. I would like to know the %% of rushes in between the tackles with yards gained compared to outside runs.

I 100% agree with this. Just discussing my frustrations schematically and the fact we’ve done nothing to create lanes by motion, counters, or pulling OL to play the numbers game.
