Good will is invaluable. No one should squander it.

That's what Jayden has done.
Corporations, people with aspirations do a lot to obtain and nurture good will. It only takes one bad experience to sour people who you want as your customers, friends or to maintain and grow a relationship.
His mom clearly doesn't understand this and now Jayden, who has an engaging and upbeat personality, is on the wrong end of a PR nightmare.
he needs to get on a flight to Baton Rouge and have a photo op with DJ and Kiffin and get the stink off of the shite he was lead into.

He needs to concentrate on his season. If he wants to do that after the season or during a bye week then sure but he needs to be concentrated on his team. Him getting on a plane now would be even dumber considering hes going into a make or break season....which makes the timing of this whole thing so friggin stupid.

I agree. There are ways of doing things. He could have asked privately (maybe they did). He could have been snarky about it.
Or he could have embraced it - made the connection with Pickett for the season "The Double Nickel".
Some folks don't handle fame well, although the suspicion is that it is people around him getting him agitated about it.

1. Even if Mom was the instigator, that letter did not go out without his approval.

That letter saying “the Daniels Family” was a dead giveaway. Mama is driving that crazy train and Jayden is along for the ride. Now the fact that he allows her to do that is another story.

Yep...on radio yesterday they said Jayden reached out personally first. It's radio so I don't necessarily believe them, or that they actually know WTF is happening, however IF on some crazy long chance that it wasn't his doing initially, he could easily blame it on the team who did it and apologize/clarify/retract the statement and say "I'm addressing it with my team members privately"
He knew about or at least supports it now or else we wouldn't be here

I mean someone told him they wouldnt use his jersey number again. LSU has profited greatly on JD, in turn he has too. It should have all happened behind closed doors but it seems that LSU just did it without even talking to JD. They should have communicated it better before actually handing the number out. Can not blame Jayden for any of this. He's a football player. Others do the "dirty" work.

Every time DJ makes a play wearing #5, fans will be reminded.

You are right in terms of people who aren't LSU fans. But LSU fans will still care about it. You have a player who LSU fans celebrated who has said he wants to be totally disassociated with LSU over a jersey number. That will be LSU fans' perception of him going forward

Yes Jayden’s camp made him look bad but LSU needs a consistent policy on retired numbers or not.
Jayden is one of three Heisman winners in LSU’s history. Don’t give me this regurgitated bullshite about “Oh, Cannon and Burrow won national championships!” Jayden belongs up there on the Mt. Rushmore with them.
Best thing LSU could do to handle the situation? Immediately start using the numbers 20 and 9 again.
