You will get downvoted bc the LSU basketball threads have been tiresome, but this would be an awesome hire.
It’s tiresome because we don’t even have a coaching vacancy.

Haha!! That was my first thought. Did you still Scott Woodward’s wish list.

Washed up coaches, have you the POS that they have standing in as the head coach,a fricking warm body would be a huge improvement over the fricking clown they have in charge of mens basketball!

Go get Jay Wright he said last night everyone wants to coach in the SEC now….so make him say no

None of those names would come to lsu. Nobody is going to want to come coach for an AD that prioritizes mbb after gymnastics, wbb, and softball.

Go get Richard Pitino from New Mexico
He had an 8-year run at Minnesota and went 54-96 in conference.

Isn't that why he left Villanova? Like Bennett left Virginia?
I don't blame them at all - the game has completely changed, and not for the better.

He would be on my b/c tier of hires. He wouldn't exactly pump me up but he's better than what we have
Hell I think that awful conference record is probably better than McMahon's

Reminds me of someone…… I can’t quite put my finger on it though
His name seems sort of familiar as well. Where have I heard that before?

I was very impressed with the coaching job Medved did yesterday. Their halftime adjustments were the difference in a game that Memphis was controlling and close to running away with at a couple of points in the first half. Clifford wasn’t playing his best, but he used him to generate open looks for others. They also harassed Haggerty all game and took Dainja out of it late after he abused them the entire first half.
All that said, coaching alone isn’t going to cut it in the SEC and the rest of that CSU roster beyond Clifford are role guys who work in his scheme, but look pretty limited. He’s grabbed a couple of borderline NBA talents in his time there (David Roddy probably isn’t, but hung on for a couple of years), but that’s not nearly enough to succeed in the SEC. It’s also worth noting how poorly 2 of the 4 MWC teams showed in this tourney. They get held up as the class of the mid-major leagues, but it isn’t by as much as some experts project based on results.
You always have to do a lot of projecting with mid-major promotion hires. Medved would need to impress with a plan to significantly upgrade his recruiting and increase focus on it to match greater NIL resources. Will a guy who’s been able to thrive on Xs and Os in a lower league embrace that?

Has anyone considered looking for a coach anywhere other than Mid Majors? Every successful mid major coach isn’t built for the SEC.

Sure, but the biggest complaint about Woody is him overpaying to draw established coaches from other power conference programs. Outside of maybe 10-20 that really focus on hoops, most programs aren’t spending like that on basketball.
The easier path are retreads who are ready to bounce back. You have Pearl, Barnes and Beard in the SEC, Sampson at Houston, and Pitino at St John’s as easy examples of how getting an established coach on the rebound can be best path to becoming a top 25 program.
Unfortunately, a lot of luck is involved in getting the right guy at the right time. Wade is really the only one of note currently on the market this season and he’s obviously not coming back here.
