re: Give Les a break on last series...

Ok, it worked, you just convinced everyone on the board to give up their opinion of the events that transpired!

Second guessing play calls is usually blind 20/20 hindsight, and irrelevant.
Our offense does nothing to scheme plays for an advantage in numbers or leverage. That is way too advanced for Miles.
We need a big time OC in full control and nothing less. We will never achieve a top 10 offense with Miles calling the shots on offense.

not just last series, the entire game, several games during the season and 1/9/12. Give Les a pink slip...

You must not have watched the game - every short yardage play was completely stuffed all game long. The play was there, and the team didn't execute the play. Even Mett said as much.
I bet you were complaining about running 2 straight times against Bama.
Exactly. That's what kills me with all this bash Miles play call shite. No matter what he does, the Rant would have called it better.

Yea coaches dont rely on execution. :beatdeadhorse:

For a few nuts, yes, that's true.
Everybody in America separated from LSU (who comments on such things) said the calls on that series were just baffling.
They stopped us two times in short yardage situations because that's all there was. They didn't stop Hill two times in a row.
You know how many bad plays we had passing the ball on 3rd down? At least four long sacks...

so 3rd and long now equals 2nd and 2.
What was Hill's ypc in this game again?
you don't risk the sack or incompletion in that situation. You run it up the middle twice and get the 2 yards

Except one buffoon pointed out that we should run aroooouund the stacked box. I like that one
like we have the last ten years?

The defense played balls out.

I'll play your game and give Les a break on the last series (although we should have ran the ball at least 2 times).
Should we also give Les a break for having an offense with a total offensive ranking the last 5 years in the 50-90 range.
We need a change on offense everyone in the nation can see it.

Wow - what, all two of them? A few people are acting like they stuffed us 6-10 times. 10 YARDS PER CARRY. Did they ever stuff Hill two times in a row?
Exactly.
Hills runs: 6,17,8,6,0,57,5,4,16,2,3,1
What in that suggests feeding him twice would not result in a net 2? And what is the worse case scenario... burning a minute and a half or 2 Clemson timeouts.
It is Football 101. The fact we are debating this shows just how blind and pathetic the sunshine pumpers are.

The Defense? It's on the Defense? GMAFB...

The play call was genius - Mett executes a perfect bootleg, resulting in no pass rush as well as no one within 3-5 yards of Jarvis. Mett just simply did not execute on that play, period. On 3rd and 2, which we failed to pick up all game running the ball, we had to throw it.
The blame, if any, should be placed squarely on Mett not executing a simple throw and catch. Mett executes, we get 1st down, and the best Clemson can hope for is 1st and 10 at their 20 with 15 seconds remaining and no time outs.
I follow your reasoning but it is flawed. If we could not get two yards in two plays then we did not deserve to be there. CU would have burned at least two time outs in that scenario and lost more clock even if it was unsuccessful.
What I dont understand is why LSU struggles so much now in this short yardage situation where the defense knows a run is coming. I watched Stanford run the ball down Wisconsins throat knowing Stanford was going to run the ball. Why cant LSU do that now like we used to??? Commemts?

The last 4 years have been the problem dumbass. It wasn't just this season
Posted on 1/2/13 at 7:48 pm to JakeRStephenes
bullshite, in that time of the game, 2nd and 2, you RUN the fricking ball.
Posted on 1/2/13 at 7:51 pm to Broham
I've said this over and over. There are 2 reasons you run on 2nd and 2:
1) Your main goal at this moment is to run the clock.
2) Even if it could have worked, you don't risk stopping the clock, especially when you have a QB who is notorious for overthrowing passes and a RB who has averaged 10 yards a carry for the game.

That's sad when us fans know this and the coaches don't.

Next year the o-line is going to be hugh and deep and we will be better at it. With other teams there is always a slight chance that they will throw the ball in those situations. Keeps the d a little honest. With LSU there is zero chance they will throw in that situation. Thats what makes that 2 great calls (not so much a great call on 3rd down as they were respecting the pass by then).

You know what running into a stacked box does - assures that the clock will most likely keep running. Stacked box...it was the Clemson D, not the Bama D... Clemson had to use two timeouts before they were even in FG position. The game could have been over.
Yep, the amazing thing is how a poor Clemson defense scared us in to a passing situation on an obvious run play. Even a quarterback draw play would have been fine, or how about a Wildcat formation- it was all about using clock!!

I actually liked the 2nd down call. The play was there, sadly it just wasn't executed. However, on 3rd down you do run, just to make them use the timeout if for no other reason.
Unless there's something I'm not aware of, Hill not having a touch in the 4th quarter is inexcusable.
