I would be pretty pissed at a Larry Fedora type hire if it was over O as of now

Fedora is 10 times the head coach as O has proven to be. He MAY have changed and improved, but we'd be expecting him to be elite, and I just don't think he'll ever be that. He was horrible at ole miss, slightly above average at USC. I agree if he goes undefeated it's his job, but it's still going to be a huge mistake.

Hope he goes undefeated, but I fear the outcome of that happens.

its hard to not give the man that won an sec west title the job. It would probably back fire on us and be another ole ball coach type moment.

So you think they should make a decision for potentially the next 10 years off of two months of work?

If coach O wins the SEC W, he can be given a short term deal that turns into a possible long one. Not a bad deal for either, if that what it comes to.

What kid wants to come play for a "short term" coach?

Well, that first game definitely gave me a chubby.

Yeah, Dieter said last week the LSU job isn't that good. Dieter needs to get his Fox desk job switched to soccer because he doesn't know football.

So if coach O goes 6-2 you say give him the job? What then was the point in firing Miles? He only had two losses a year how many times? LSU needs to hire the coach that has the biggest chance to advance LSU football, not hire a coach that represents the flagship school of all of Louisiana just because he's a Cajun.

If you can't see the difference from what Miles refused to do then there is little hope you'll "get it"

How am I wrong? What has O done previous to this stint that shows he can do better? Zero. Not saying he can't or won't but he hasn't shown the ability previously.

he was the interim coach in a far worse situation at USCw and went 6-2, because he wasn't a west coast guy, they didn't give him the job...

his accent won't be a handicap here...in la la land, they probably associate it with the waterboy...

I'm not saying he's the man we should hire but if you think he didn't show any improvement in his stint at USC from where he was at Ole Miss then you haven't been watching football very long. He has matured greatly and learned some valuable lessons!

How is it a firing if they hire a coach?

Any ways, it's not that hard. If they can get an elite coach then they jump at it.. if not then explore other options such as retaining him. Let's let it play out first.

Honestly, if Herman and Jimbo say no, there's no other coach I'd rather have right now.

I agree for now, but he's got some tough games coming up. We may change our minds if we drop a few games.

First game was great and exceeded expectations. We should continue with our search and reach out to Herman and Jimbo and not wait until the end of the season however. I would take either one of them in a heartbeat right now.

Coach O still has this season to prove himself. If we are being honest, winning out or making the SECCG seems pretty far-fetched if you consider where we were just a week ago with Miles.

If O does well (about 6-2), I would still take Herman or Jimbo, but I would take O before any of the other 2nd tier guys. I think this may be a realistic goal for O based on how well we played last night.

Again, he may have. At this point you can't deduce that from one game. You can't watch one game with him as head coach and determine those factors. If at the end of the year he has shown that he has learned and improved then evaluate him along with the other hirable coaches.

I think it's win win as coach O, I believe, has a great year and say you get Herman around December. Herman has ties with Aranda already so he would just need to hire a great OC. The thing with Herman is he's proving now what he can do with less. I do not want to see LSU get Fisher, I'm glad that fell through last year.

I would bet some of that enthusiasm was also for Coach Miles. Just a way of honoring him by playing their asses off.

What is the only reason Miles was fired? He And his staff recruited great, defense was usually pretty damn good, he just could or would not let the offense change from his 3 yards and a cloud of dust.
If Miles would have just gone out and hired a good O coach and left him alone he would still be the head coach.
We have a pretty good stable staff now, hire a big time offensive coach we would be ok. Coach O may be the one to run this team, of course we will get to see how he can handle the situation for the rest of he season. We should be able to make a fair call on him in December.
