He mentioned a fact about the player having the most walks. You’re getting in your feelings because you don’t want anyone to mention that?
It’s a nice pick up if the guy works out his control issues.

I’ll take a kid who grew up an LSU fan and throws 96-98 all day long!!

He’ll have way better coaching and technology at LSU which should help him.

LSU doesn’t win a Natty last year without Hurd. Just like A&M wouldn’t be 4 innings away from winning one without Cortez.

Both have control issues but also elite stuff.

He should've come last year. It would have done him good.

Cortez just went 4 2/3 with 5 walks. Yet he left still up 1-0 because of his stuff with 7 K’s.

I think it's fine to mention the walks, but the other numbers are outstanding.

I just don't think we need the whole, "he's already walked 3 during this thread" type of jabs. I'm excited If at worst he's a Moffett or Hurd replacement. I would still take those guys. He has the stuff to be elite.

How does a talent like that end up at Nicholls?

He wasn’t as talented and recruited coming out of HS. He grew some, got stronger, and made the most of his opportunity.

He wasn’t even ranked on perfect game

No one else offered him. When there was talk of the possibility of LSU pursuing him, he said that Nicholls and Mike Silva were the only ones who offered him out of HS so he was sticking with his coach. Silva leaves and he hits the portal.

It’s baseball. Justin Verlander (Ole Dominion), Craig Biggio (Seton Hall), Jeff Bagwell (Hartford), Billy Wagner (Ferrum), Kirby Puckett (Bradley) and Tino Martinez (Tampa) didn’t exactly go to well known baseball factories.

Kid had the highest amount of walks in baseball. The Cam Johnson comparisons are not far off. People will celebrate anything because it’s LSU

Now discuss what he did the season before. If you want to tell the whole story ,that's fine, let's just tell the whole story though

He had a ton of walks the season before as well. Not as many as this year, but still a high number.

He had 58 last year and 76 this year. For comparison, the highest walk total of any pitcher in the sec this year was in the 40s.

This Kid has the stuff and potential to be REALLY GOOD. Just needs to cut down on the walks!
Nate Yeskie couldn't help Cam Johnson with this exact same problem, so how's he going to help Jacob Mayers?

Astroglide & Mechanical seems to be doing much better with another pitching coach. They be playing for a NC tomorrow while LSU couldn't even take out North Carolina to make it to a Super. (And NC didn't last long after beating LSU)

I watched him a few years ago work with a pitching instructor going into his senior year. He was sitting 86-88 in September and by January he was sitting 91-92. It was amazing to see. Then his senior year he was 91-94. Then Freshman year he got up to upper 90s. It is true Nichols offered him when others didn't. Hard worker and good person.
