Where there are still guys, who want to impress girls there will be football in school, middle school and up.
Most girls aren't all that impressed by whether a guy plays football. I learned this the hard way. The issue isn't whether a kid wants to play football, it's whether his parents will let him. And that will be the next shoe to drop. A lot of mamas just aren't going to let their 7th grader go out for football as more and more information becomes available.
ETA: And I don't care how many kids want to play football, if it's cost-prohibitive due to liability issues, it ain't happening.

Who could have imagined that you could get hurt playing football?
There are certain prices some folks are willing to pay, I had the knee surgery and the shoulder surgery but seriously I did not bargain for a lifetime of brain damage.
I don't have the brain damage symptoms but then I did not make it to the college level. I played against Mike in high school. Frankly I am very saddened to think his life will end this way.

So, when are these non-NFL caliber players going to start suiting their alma maters?
YOU KNOW it's just a matter of time.

frick you. The guys a douche for suing. Hope it hurts business. I'll certainly never go there again and I'll tell everyone I know to do the same.

The reality is that physical size and the speed of the game has changed since the 60's. Lawsuits are a way to draw attention to these facts, though they are currently focused on the protective gear one wears.
In the end physical size and speed are what has changed, at least to me. There was a time when one was born with physical prowess, speed or size and if God Blessed you with both you moved into a special players group. Now days physical training starts at very young ages and everyone has a chance to be physically very strong. So now every blow can be a serious blow and every tackle can cause a blackout.
I don't have the answer, nor am I suggesting any particular rule or recommendation.

Why the frick would he sue LSU?, the NCAA sets guidelines and made the choices with helmets.
You guys are acting like idiots, you slam the NCAA because you think they are a bunch of idiots, and then defend them when they are sued.
Do all of you work for Riddell? own stock? Then WHY the frick do you automatically defend them.
By the way, when Mike Anderson's had the fire in the restaurant someone choose to libel him about, HE PAID all of his staff WHILE it was being rebuilt. EVERYONE working there he kept on payroll, and PAID THEM, from cooks to waiters, waitresses, etc. I found that out from a friend's daughter who was a waitress there during that time. THAT EXPENSE wasn't reimbursed; but he did the right thing FOR HIS EMPLOYEES.

and it may also be someone pushing Anderson to go through with it all too.
Like he was pushed to play football? It doesn't take a genius to know you could get hurt playing football. Basically one pussy said well they never said I could get hurt, got paid and the rest followed.

It's the knee jerk, over the top, end of the world reaction of some of the posters to one article.
Mainly what did tick me off was that FLA St fan dude the B.J.
If you guys wont go to his restaurant because of this article, that's your choice, and I understand concerns the suit will snowball into other suits.
But I mean really, it is way over the top for FLA St Fan to accuse the guy of arson and insurance fraud.
And if his following comment is to me, he can S.H.O.A.UP

Hell, I'm only 30 and already suffering from memory loss and I didn't play college football. I guess I can sue my peewee league

the write-up on Mike Anderson in the 2005 football media guide
Started every game during his three years as an LSU linebacker. In fact, he was the second of three straight All-America linebackers produced by LSU: George Bevan in 1969; Anderson in 1970; and Warren Capone in 1973. Mike was noted for one great play: Auburn there in 1970, LSU leading 17 9, the Plainsmen had the ball, fourth and one inch and 6'2", 225-pound fullback Wallace Clark drove for the TD. Anderson met him head-on short of pay dirt and his feat became that of which legends are made. First-Team All-SEC by AP and UPI in 1970.

This was inevitable, and I don't like it. Hell maybe playground kids should sue the local recreation departments and helmet manufacturers too. Bush league.

STFU! You seem to know him so you known damn well his mind is just fine. It's a money grab and you obviously have something to gain as well.
And to help you out, insurances pay for lost revenue due to an insurable event, which it is when arson by the owner isn't proven.
Tell the has been to bring a case against the jockstrap company for making his nuts shrink. Or may sue the shoe company for his foot pain. Or maybe he should sue girls Luke you who give him a false sense of being relevant.
Are you seriously too fricking dumb to realize that it's possible LSU was considering a different helmet but chose Riddell because of a monetarily beneficial situation, which then will put the liability on LSU!

Well obviously before you started playing football you knew there was the potential for knee and/or shoulder injuries, yet were willing to play the game anyway. However, on the otherhand you're trying to tell us that you did not "bargain" for brain damage despite knowing full well that head to head collisions are commonplace in the game? This is essentially the same as a boxer saying "I had no idea that being punched in the head over and over for several years would cause any damage?" If only someone was there to protect me from myself.
By the way, this is just the begining of these types of suits against professional and college sports leagues. In all sports. Don't be shocked when 15-20 years from now (maybe much sooner) we see MLB sued by former players whose bodies are ravaged by steriod use. The basis for their claim will be that MLB created a "culture" that promoted and/or allowed them take substances that (despite being well documented) caused adverse health effects. It's just the next step in the continuation of a complete lack of self-accountability in this country.
