I've read the entire thread and not one person mentions that back in the day (and probably today), we were coached to use our head as a weapon because it was protected in a helmet. I know this is very illegal now in football, but back in the day, it was taught. Go look at Earl Campbell's famous run when he lowers his head and buries it in a guy's chest, running right through him.

I think he should sue and it will be a landmark case. There is a reason why the NFL and NCAA made spearing and head to head contact illegal, because it use to be coached and everyone did it.

Mike Anderson is a piece of shite, and his restaurant sucks. The food there is absolutely terrible, even if they charged half of what they do now it would still be overpriced garbage.

My bro is friends with Mike, and I've been introduced to him and have been around Mike a few times. He was always very nice & friendly. I've enjoyed the food every time I've been, and Mike was an incredible football player for LSU.

Dang I forgot about that, we were actually taught to do that, I remember now. Yes the Helmet was to be the point of impact, the harder the better. In fact I was taught the guy who was not hitting at 100% was the guy who ended up with the broken bones, yep thanks for reminding me

"Difference being that no one 30, 20, or even 15 years ago had any idea that "getting your bell rung" at 17 could lead to dementia at 45."

Ding Ding........then why in the hell is anyone being sued here if they weren't willfully negligent? There's the rub....it's a damn money grab, it's a shame folks suffered these injuries, but at some point it's too bad, so sad. Don't steal from others because of your poor decisions. At this rate folks with heart disease will be able to sue McDonalds for serving them food.

I saw him play many times, but after this I think he is a total arse hole. Every time I come to BR. to see my kids, I ate there. I guess I will go back to Ralph & Kacoo's.

Because it ain't about the money, it is about making change and saving lives in the future. Have you noticed that no one has changed a damn thing without a law suit. If you don't like law suits make the changes without them. Not complicated to me, look a GMC if you want an example on another grand scale. Why don't you guys wake up and smell the coffee

It is only when the costs of the law suits exceed the paying of a claim that change is made, ask any Bean Counter if you can't figure it out for yourself.

Mike Anderson continues to act courageously in his life, though he may not now know it.

If it wasn't for the football notoriety he wouldn't even have a successful business. Can't have your cake too.

The end of football as we knew started with the upgrade of physical training, weight lifting at younger and younger training, weight management - setting up dietary plans to create Bigger and Bigger players and the focus on Speed.

I am not a physicist but I think increased MASS + increased Speed means more power at the point of contact - but meh I could be wrong

That is when YOUR GAME AS YOU KNOW IT CHANGED

Mike Anderson is simply a symptom of the change but as usual when someone sticks their head up, 10 "know it alls will" shoot it off.

Boy is that a steaming pile. Make what changes? Outlaw football? Force people to sit around and play fantasy twiddlywinks because we can't allow folks to make their own decisions? Football is a violent game, look at how many guys who can barely walk, have really bad arthritis from playing back in the 60's-70's-80's....yet we have guys fighting to be in the NFL/NCAA every year. You strap on that helmet and accept that check/scholarship you know what you're getting yourself into.

he chose to play football. I played 4 years of CFB as well (not at LSU). I used an AIR helemt. I would NEVER sue due to HA's and memory loss ect. This is such bullshite.

I wont be eating at his bullshite restaurant anymore. Sammy's and Drusilla are better anyway

I"m not surprised at the reaction of this board. I figure you all consider him a pussy for just not keeping his mouth shut and accepting his brain damage as just the price to pay since no one forced him to play football.

So what does this have to do with the helmet manufacturer? Did they put these training programs in place?

What changes? Was this stuff fully understood in the 70's when Anderson played?

Mike, I've got memory loss and I get headaches routinely. And I didn't play football at all, except for a few years of little league. Who can I sue?

I read about this suit with the common theme here of distaste. From a legal standpoint, the NCAA and any individual school will be very unlikely to pay a dime to any individual claimant, or the floodgates will open for countless claims and class actions. This could have bankruptcy implications like the old asbestos suit. My thought with any of these suits is do we offset any recovery from such a suit versus the benefits received from playing football at this level, namely school tuition, endorsement money, connections, restaurant fame, NFL/CFL millions etc. Can't have it both ways.

The end of football comes when kids at the middle school level are steered into other sports by their parents, and the talent pool dries up. The future of football is that of boxing-a niche sport played by hard cases without other options. You have your head in the sand if you don't see it coming.
