No program in that league is particularly "well coached", so his coaching limitations are probably minimized.
Donte Jackson went 17-14 in his first year at Grambling -- the Tigers' first winning record since 2006 and most wins since 1984 -- and won at Georgia Tech. He'll definitely stand in Johnny's way.

Plus, could TSU have done any better at this point in the off season? They didn't fire Davis. He left them three weeks ago. Not a lot of coaches are willing to make a move right in the middle of preparing for the next season.

Exactly. Like you alluded to, TSU's resources are limited anyway, so they didn't have a wealth of options.

When you consider the difficulty of the TSU job in the realm of D-I basketball, Johnny being able to say he played in a Final Four, coached in a Final Four, led a mid-major to the tournament, coached Shaq and coached Ben Simmons will go a long way with the caliber of players he's recruiting.

To go from mike Davis to Johnny jones will have TSU fans looking off a bridge to jump off.

I do not care if he succeeded or not at LSU.
He is a Tiger and I will support him and wish him the best.

Some really sorry arse individuals in this site.
I hope some get judged as harshly as they judge.

Yeah, I knew he was bad there when we hired him. I did not know he was so bad that he could screw up that ben simmons year though.

Just saw Mike Davis went to Detroit Mercy, had no idea that was even a Division I school.

The SWAC is the level of basketball he should be coaching. He has no business being a major college basketball head coach.

He’s had SWAC written all over him since day 1.

He's learned from past mistakes and wanted to start over just like our O.

I mean you can hate the guy all you want for what he did or didn’t do while at LSU but it’s good to see he gets another chance. Maybe with less pressure on him he can have some success.

Lol what the frick are you talking about?

Good for Coach Jones. I didnt enjoy his tenure very much at LSU, but I wouldn’t wish against him being able to continue his career and support his family. Best of luck to him.

He may get to watch us personally in his own arena on December 12th. UH has said that the new Fertitta Center (renovated Hofheinz Pavillion) won't be ready until mid December at the earliest. If that is the case, we'll be playing them at the TSU H&PE Arena, which UH was undefeated at last year. It's a nice arena, but the neighborhood is not the greatest.

WTF??? Please tell me you're joking and not serious.

If you are serious, please elaborate. This should be entertaining.

I wish no ill will toward JJ. He's a good man and I'm happy for him. But his tenure at LSU was a dumpster fire trainwreck.

But his incompetency as a coach on the floor was really astonishing. He truly was one of the worst coaches LSU ever had on any level in any sport. Curley Hallmanesque for sure.
Curley Hallman was Nick Saban in comparison to Johnny Jones.

As an Alum, it's embarrassing that the dysfunctional individual that brought us Trent Johnson, Johnny Jones, Nikki Caldwell-Fargas, Ed Orgeron and Aramark Jackson is still employed by the University.
