For those who Follow the MLB, is Skenes a Top 5 pitcher in the league already?

Amazing to see him do what he did to arguably the best hitter(Ohtani) in the league earlier.
All those pitches were strikes and Ohtani couldn’t catch up. Wasn’t like he was swinging for shitty stuff outside the zone.

Just curious where he stands already as far best pitchers in the Pros.

No, but the potential is obviously there and it may not take him long to reach it. He might be a legitimate ROTY candidate if he keeps this up.

Until he smoked a 100mph fb over the centerfield wall in the next ab

Skenes is a monster, he’ll only get better as he learns how to pitch to guys like Ohtani.

He’s definitely on the rise, but idk if he’s in the top 5 just yet. Top 20 without question. And saying that for a rookie is unheard of.

Then Ohtani put one in the seats next time. Skenes has to become more efficient so his pitch count doesn't get so high by the 6th inning .

no but he would be with a top 5 Pitchers strike zone. he just won’t get that for a couple of years and possible a big market move

For his age he is insanely good too

Guess that’s gonna happen too.

Wasn’t suggesting he was, because I have no idea, and don’t follow much in the League.

He’s coming into pro ball at a good time where 5/6 innings is ok for a starter and with all the specialists in bullpens these days he doesn’t have to worry about his pitch count
He should become more efficient over time
Will be interesting to see if pirates will be able to keep him long term when he eventually gets to free agency

he was like that early last year and then he started mixing in more pitches and was unhitable.

he is barely throwing his curveball and changeup right now.

it’s all FB, Splinker, Slider

The guy I use for fantasy ranks the pitchers every week and Skenes is 14 right now, but climbing with every new list.

He gets more swings and misses than any pitcher in the league % wise. Thats why his PC is always gonna be higher. Quick outs are hard to come by.
Nothing about being efficient. Come on guys wake up

i feel like today wasn't one of his better days, and he still shoved 8K and got Ohtani on a 3 pitch K

Ohtani caught a 100mph pitch for a HR, but regardless 100mph pitched HRs are rare

Not top 5, no

But it’s not a stretch to make the argument for top 20

Unquestionably top 30
