Fan interference call (I was in stands and saw it all)

First things first - I was in left field stands and was less than 20 feet from the play. Saw it all and the aftermath. Here is a breakdown :
1. The kid reached over the wall and touched the ball with his glove in the field of play. The front half of his glove was past the top of the wall. He definitely touched the ball and was even saying out loud during the review “It hit my glove”.
2. That said, if he doesn’t touch the ball, I am almost 100 percent sure the ball hits the top of the wall on the yellow line and is a home run.
3. The left fielder had no shot at catching it. At worst is hits the wall and bounces away for at least a double.
4. The sad part for the kid is he was probably no more than 14 or so and had moved from directly in front of me to just a few feet over in the 8th to sit by his mom. Had he not done that he wouldn’t have been there at all.
5. After it was ruled interference, he was - by rule- kicked out. Of course he was upset but to me it looked like he was more upset about screwing up the home run instead of missing the rest of the game.
So, to wrap up, IMO the right call was made according to the rules but it’s sad to see that this kid will have this on him for a while because he reached out a few inches too far to catch a ball that he had been hoping to get all night. As Jay Johnson said after the game, common sense should have taken over but didn’t.
P.S. Anybody got any questions about it, I’ll do my best to answer it from my perspective.

What finger do you wear your Aggie ring on?

Dude I am LSU through and through. Had all my gear on tonight! My dad played football for the Tigers in the 1960s. Has nothing to do with fandom. Just giving the facts. I wanted it to be a home run but the kid touches the ball. I can’t dispute that

Why didn’t the kid sit next to his father?

You’re getting downvoted for ruining the narrative with these pesky facts
Fact of the matter is that it didn’t cost us the game. That’s a mistake any young person could make. He learned a lesson and will have a sweet story to tell for the rest of his life. He probably feels bad and he doesn’t need anyone on his case about it anymore
Good guys won. Now let’s move on and do it again tomorrow

Yeah, doesn't matter since we won. frick it. I can't believe he got a piece of it, but the glove does add some reach.

You nay be right, but there's no way there was video proof of it hitting the fans glove......doesn't matter though

quote:From the twitter video posted. I slowed it down to .25x and paused when the ball came down, did a screencap and cropped it. You can see the glove does obscure the ball, otherwise it would be a blur with a round bottom, not a blur with a crescent shaped bottom. You can also tell he's leaning out over the fence with his arm fully extended, and the glove almost certainly extends beyond the wall.

I don't believe you. I want to see someone reach out and get their glove in the field of play. I'm talking the glove being in front of the yellow line and "in the field". I've been out there several times and I don't believe it possible.

None. Aggies don’t have a ring.

That chain link bleacher fence sits away from the wall. His body would have to be leaning against/over it for his glove to even have a chance to be in the field of play, and there was no replay that showed that was the case. Turning it into a double was understandable, into an out/interference is pure incompetence.
ETA: Based on how/where he is standing that is 100% a HR if he made contact with the ball. If the ball missed his glove then it hit the wall in the air.

why would someone lie about this? Seems pretty apparent it did happen, there's a guy who says he witnessed it, the picture definitely shows something up with the ball. The kid is stretched out over the fence, ribs against the rail, leaning forward and arm fully extended.

quote:He doesn’t have to be lying, he could just be wrong. Being less than 20 feet away means nothing unless you’re on line with the glove and the wall (not the chain link fence) which based on the videos this poster almost assuredly was not.

Thanks for the your own eyeballs report. That sucks he touched but at least we won! He doesn't have a loss on his conscience.

another screen cap
Again, blurry as hell, but you can see him leaning out over the fence. That's from the same twitter video, a slightly different angle.
You guys seem hellbent on saying it was impossible to do, but it sure looks otherwise, not sure why anyone wants to die on this hill. We won.

“Have this on him”
Are you fricking kidding?
anyone attacking a teenager over a mishap that didn’t even change the best possible outcome (a win over the #1 team) should be banished from LSU sporting events and have a mental health evaluation
No one cares since we won.

I’m just extremely glad for that kid that A&M did not tie the game and win it in extra innings. Would have had to move to Lafayette.

quote:Yes, because I’ve watched approximately 200 games from the first row of bleachers in the exact section the play happened.

ETA: From your screenshot, his hips would need to be up against the rail and he would have to be leaning “toward the plate” to get into the field of play, and that’s even assuming they had an angle that even showed him making contact with the ball.
