Excuse my lack of MLB knowledge- Is Bregman the best Tiger ever in the pros?

Saw him hit his 40th home runs last night. I admittedly have a lack of MLB intelligence.

Anyone wanna crack a egg of knowledge on me?

Albert Belle

Other than that Bregman has a good case for the best.

Depends on how you feel about steroids as it pertains to Albert Belle. If you take what he did on the field at face value, I think he tops the list. But if Bregman stays healthy, he could certainly pass him.

Albert Bell probably takes that title for now. If Bregman keeps playing like he has then he will be up there eventually.

Can’t forget about DJ either. He’s won a batting title and has a case for AL MVP this year.

Bregman is a Gold Glove level infielder, but go look at Albert Belle’s stats in his prime. From a purely offensive perspective it’s clearly Belle...so far, but Bregman’s comin’

DJ deserves MUCH more attention and accolades, by MLB and Tiger fans.

No. Bergman was a Swedish master of mid-20th century cinema.

I definitely didn't forget him. He's a great hitter. I just think he's well behind Belle and Bregman for overall production, if we're ranking the greatest former Tigers in MLB.

Can’t really disagree. But he’s among the best former tigers to play in the MLB for sure.

Absolutely. He, Alvin Dark, Belle and Bregman are probably the four best former Tigers in the big leagues. We've had lots of players with great college careers who got drafted really high, but none were as successful as those four have been, to my knowledge.

Guys like Paul Byrd, Mike Sirotka, Russ Springer, Brad Hawpe and a few others had some success, but no real sustained excellence.

edit- Oh, and of course Ben McDonald was also moderately successful, but certainly not great, mainly due to injuries.

if you go by WAR then I believe Bregman's season this year is the highest for a former LSU player

I agree w all former Tigers mentioned as honorable mention but Bregman should be the best of the best when it's all said and done. It helps that he is playing on potential World Series winning team year in and year out. He already has 1 ring. He should be voted MVP in 2019. Good chance the Astros win it all in 2019 with the hitting and pitching they have on their roster. Bregs is special. Great ambassador for LSU as well. Geaux Astros!

Only because Belle's 1994 got cut short by the strike. On a per game basis, Belle had the higher WAR that year. (50/50 is still INSANE!)

Whenever I see threads like this I can't help but wonder how good Mike Miley could have been if not for that fateful accident.

No, but Bob Pettit was. He was the first NBA MVP.
