True

It should be reserverd for the most special occasions.

You pull it out on the road in a VERY big road win. You pull it out at home when an underdog and you pull off a win against a higher ranked opponent. Championship games.

I'd be more upset if we started playing it every game than I am that they will never play it.

Just because society today seems to enjoy the vulgar lyrics of 'today's' music is certainly no reason to force it on an entire generation of people who find it simply inapproriate for a huge sector of the public.

Oh please. You old fogies might not have cursed as much in your songs, but your music was still vulgar. Do you think "Baby, it's cold outside" was just about the weather?

1945 - Andrews Sisters, Rum And Coca-Cola - mother and daughter prostitutes

1931 - Cab Calloway, Minnie the Moocher - cocaine

1970s - Leonard Cohen - very explicit sex

1969 - Rolling Stones, Midnight Rambler - rape and murder

1975 - Aerosmith, Walk this Way - sex with an underage girl

1967 - Neil Diamond, Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon - does this need an explanation?

Blues and Jazz from the 30s-50s is absolutely filthy. Look up Lucille Bogan's "Shave 'em Dry."

Ringo Starr sang about sleeping with a 16 year old. Still better than "Mellow Yellow" talking about being with a 14 year old.

Mozart wrote about licking arse. Shakespeare and Chaucer had explicit poems and stories. Robert Burns in the 18th century. Every era in history has been vulgar. Your generation isn't special in this regard.

Your problem seems to just be that it isn't thinly veiled. Kids hear worse than STTDB at school every day. I learned to curse from kids in 5th grade. You shouldn't be taking kids younger than that to events where people are drinking. And women are adults. They don't need to be saved from foul language.

You know what happens at football games. If you don't like it, don't go. Other people shouldn't have to change because you have a problem with it.

I'd love it if the band played neck, especially in key celebratory situations. It's one of my favorite things ever.

But, I don't think the current band as a whole knows the song. My understanding, as you pointed out, is the band director hates it and refuses to teach it. Thereby making it impossible for it to be played.

All that being said, the band is 10x better than anything we had with Roy. They don't recycle shows. The music is better. The music is louder. Overall, the quality of the band is SO much better than it's been of late. And, we sing STTDB to everything else anyway.

I'd like someone to talk to the director about playing it in key situations and come to an agreement, but by no means should this dude be replaced over one damn song. Big picture, this guy is really good.

The neck chant makes us look really bad on national TV. I guess the kids love it. Glad my daughter has graduated and moved on.

LSU does a lot of great things..first class things.... the neck chant is not one of them.

Whatever. Down vote away.

I agree with some of what you said, but I disagree that the band is louder now that it was under Roy King. It seemed that we had more brass under King than we have now, and that equals more power of sound. That said, Tiger Band sounded much louder this year than last. They were absolutely fantastic at the Peach Bowl.

The band sounds so much better on the road because they aren't limited to when or how much they can play. At home, there are so damn many ads and so much piped in music, that Tiger Band can probably only play about 5 or 6 times per game, not including the short chant tunes. That's not the director's fault. Kelvin Jones has done an admirable job as interim director, but I still think that LSU should do a nationwide search for a more qualified candidate.

EVERYONE on this board agrees that you are WRONG. You must be part of the Talley mafia sent out to social media to make him look good. Sorry, it ain't working. Go to his office Monday and inform him that the Rant thinks he is a POS.

Absolutely not, students sang the vulgar song at basketball game the other night and there were boos from the crowd. We are better than that and until fans can grow up (not just students), it shouldn’t be played. Awful to sit at a game with my daughter and hear that.

Everyone wants it played, but none of you have to face any repercussions like the band director does if it's played and then portrayed in a negative spotlight.

WRONG. Woodward said loud and clear they were OK with the band playing Neck. If Woodward was against it, he would have remained silent about this topic.

You are most certainly stoned (or unable/unwilling to read between the lines). Woodward has/is obliviously providing "administrative cover" for any negative blowback. In fact, since this occurred during the A&M game (according to Woodward), "cover" was offered and rejected by Talley.

Said tailgate?

Good job Perry Mason wannabe.

Yeah I drink 2 beers and it's ok for me to scream Suck That Tiger's Dick Bitch at some little 5 year old girl in a cheerleader outfit....

Swing and a miss.................

The reason I ask is because how many people go out and tailgate all day long? They drink for 2-6 hours before the game. Then go to the game for 3 hours and load their entire family up in the truck and drive their wife and kids 2-3 hours to get home at midnight?

No one bats an eye at something that is ACTUALLY ENDANGERING YOUR FAMILY'S LIVES but people are saying bad words in the stadium so heaven forbid a child be around that.

People are stupid about the shite they get worked up over.

I take this as Woodward telling his former employer to STTDB.

You have an interesting concept of "Bad words" you'd scream at a 5 year old...

Play it during commercial break. Everyone is happy.

It’s time to drop the ban.

No grown-up with an ounce of class and good breeding wants to hear that vulgar chant.

It really does make the fanbase seem trashy.
