Score more than one run and then you got a damn argument. I mean the prehype to this UCLA team was about their HR's. How many did they hit? ZERO

You'll notice the umpire immediately called obstruction.. The reason.. She was parked in front long before she was in the act of catching the ball. Had she slid back into that spot upon arrival of the ball then no obstruction..

As I stated in the game thread...considering how UCLA got so many blatant homer calls against Ole Miss in the Supers...I can't feel bad for them.

Try living here in SoCal and dealing with these arrogant SOB's on a daily basis. Their fans are pathetic.

I wasn't sure of the rule. I thought as long as you have the ball before the runner arrives its not obstruction. Apparently you have to give the runner a piece of the plate regardless.

Did I hear the ladies on ESPN after the game say if LSU didn't get the obstruction call, then they know UCLA would have won?
I was at work and wasn't focusing on their commentary as much once the game ended, but thought I heard that but wasn't too sure.
I thought that's what I heard and I was shocked.

quote:Exactly. The ump didn't even hesitate to call it. He basically saw it the whole time she was sitting there waiting on the throw. He was pretty bad today, but he did get that one right.

I was kind of surprised how shitty the commentator was when talking about the obstruction call. He kept saying "the throw brought her into the line, blah blah blah". That's bullshite. The catcher had her arse parked in the path and she turned to catch the ball, then turned back around for the tag. The whole time she was in the path.
The umps sucked on many levels today though, especially calling balls and strikes. ESPN did a segment on this, I believe after last years WCWS or maybe the year before last. Saying how horrible the umpires are in softball and that on college softball's biggest stage, they look horrible. I believe they even included that they're barely paid or something along those lines and saying the NCAA should step it up.

Hanny also tweeted that when the catcher has her knee down on the ground in the base path, it is automatically obstruction.

They umpire was backwards on her calls all day. UCLA runner looked safe, balls and strikes were bad. And the called swing strike out on the check swing by LSU was terrible. However the catcher obviously setup in the baseline before the throw or the catch. She didn't step into the line to catch the ball. Ump got that one right.

We had no outs and Griggs call on a crappy third strike she didn't go around. Andrews was safe at second on a steal and called her out. Those calls were both ways. The woman behind the plate was terrible.

quote:Wow, she was homesteading the width of basepath well before "in the act of catching a thrown ball".
They deserve to bitch.
The first run was close but tie goes to runner is a myth.

Yikes! Umpire was a she, dude...
But otherwise, you're right.

Softball umpires are so shitty that for the most part you shouldn't complain about them. It should just be expected that you're going to get fricked over a couple times. Just gotta hope they screw over who you're playing a little bit more.

What about the no call when SJ hit the runner on the throw down to first? Runner was completely in the field of play.
