Stayed in the north-east side dorms in 89-90. Nothing but a concrete cell. Air was an unreliable wall unit and heat was provided by a radiator unit in the hall.

At least you had that, I stayed in Johnston hall in 1998, and air was provided by an open window with a box fan and heat was provided by burning paper in the garbage can and huddling around it.

So crappy, at least they felt bad and gave us the Kappa Sig house for a year or so..

I think access could be really tough. Great idea though.

Heard it was unfeasible because of the cost to redesign and install HVAC.

I'm sure $25-$50 million would do the job!

One of my "win the big mega millions" projects would to donate enough money to redo Hatcher, Hodges, and Johnson....strip them completely down to bare concrete, redo the interiors as modern dorms and add floors as structurally feasible....AND add a couple of decent elevators!!!!!!

I thought I was the only one that had these thoughts. I wish I had T. Boone Pickens money. LSU would have the greatest campus in the country.

My thing would be, "just build it" Don't worry about putting my name on anything!

The problem is that lsu would have to remediate the asbestos too renovate the dorms. In the clean up process for asbestos is very expensive and take a significant amount of time for large projects. A job like that could take over a year, and it would be difficult to coordinate the process around football events. Also, if something goes wrong, the remediation could be more problematic for gamedays and could cost more money.

I've had to deal with Pentagon reonvation since the project began.....remediation of the stadium dorms would be nowhere as complex as that....you already have unoccupied buildings that were pretty austere to begin with....one thought, would it be structurally possible to tear down east and west stadium dorms and start all over?

Dorm rooms in TS, LSU needs to renovate... (Posted on 1/1/12 at 2:27 a.m.) And rent out for football games. Could you image having a dorm with semi-private bathroom, catered, tv's in every room, etc. They would need to build some kind of passage to/from the stadium, but I could easily seeing the rent for $500-$1000 a game plus the catering, etc. Has this ever been considered within the AD?

This was considered years ago and it was determined to be cost prohibitive.

If asbestos or lead in the piped is a real issue. Their should be some kind of money form the feds to clean up a hazardous site. This condition should not be allowed to exist on a college campus. The EPA should get involved. There are safe ways to eliminate asbestos contamination and lead abatement.

Every year a company or two inquire about renovating the dorms. It just never works out because of the cost.

One of main reasons for the new window project was to sweeten the pot for a developer to renovate the dorms as they would not have to put new windows in.

The Death Valley Sports Entertainment Complex or (DVSEC) was created to work with LSU and the state government go bring about a 60 million dollar renovation to tiger stadium. Food courts open year round, shopping, restaurants, fighting tiger museum and hall of fame, new gate designs, 500 car garage located on south stadium drive behind campus police were a few of the amenities. It was going to be the finest venue in collegiate athletics.

In 04 it was delayed because of the west upper deck by TAF and ath dept. In May of 05 it was green lit for the DVSEC to work with TAF to make it a reality.

In September of 05 the project was derailed by Katrina and never resumed for many reasons.

It would have made death valley the finest sports
Facility possible considering the age and design of the structure. Coleman architects of baton rouge was the designated designer with Sisung securities handling the necessary bond financing.

The reason so many other places have better facilities, infrastructure and higher quality of life is due to the provincial nature of state officials. There is no reason highways in LA couldn't be as nice as TX or our schools
For that matter. No one and I mean NO ONE wants to be responsible if something goes wrong therefore nothing gets accomplished.

In the case of the DVSEC, it was TAF itself that didn't want this project to move forward because the main drivers were not TAF members. All local but not TAF insiders.

LSU is the victim and a certain general keeps his clique together. Now you know a little bit of the story as to why there are no luxury condos on death valley.

It is new years day, 72 degrees and it is a shame you can't ride your bike and grab lunch in the food court, get coffee at 93's the coffee shop celebrating the 1893 football team, visit the museum and cross the street to see mike...but you can't and never will.

A couple of my best friends lived in North Stadium when we were students in the '70's. They brought a baby nutria home from a duck hunt & kept him in their room for a semester. It was high comfort for the little nutria; for the humans it was like living in a dump.

Although I'd love to have lived in the dorms. Sadly the cost of bring them up to the building code is likely cost prohibitive.

why does it have to be profitable? can't we just do it because it's cool?

asbestos is only a hazard if the fibers are disturbed and airborn.
