USC in 2010 was a top tier job, coming directly from the Pete Carroll era. This isn’t the gotcha you think it is.

Absolutely. USC was 55 - 10 with a natty leading up to when Lane took that gig. They were basically the Georgia of that time.

The job where he was screwed out of a good situation because scholarships were taken away?

Just wanted to share the USC press conference comments with you.
We call that over-sharing.

Well oh shite! I don't even want that fraud anymore. Thanks for showing me things that every coach says at every press conference.

Monte Kiffin and Ed O were considered the two best in the country at their respective coaching positions, he did put together a hell of a staff.

That’s every coach’s introductory press conference. What else is he supposed to say?

USC hosed him. His firing set them back 15 years. I bet they wish they never did. He had multiple good years, and got fired for going 9-4. USC was spoiled with championships, then fired a good coach when he didn’t win one immediately. Similar to DeBoer at Bama right now.

LSU once hired a coach with an "okay" record at his previous school (34-24-1) who seemed to improve over the years.

It's not illegal or unheard of for this to occur.

USC back then was a dream job for a lot of people. Now it's really not lol. Things change. I don't think LSU was Lane's dream job, but with a vacancy, it's was the best job out there. Everyone reaching for any straw they can to make this a "bad" hire. This is great for us. And do I think he would go to Bama in a few years, no I really don't. I feel, and I hope for the love of LSU I am right, that Kiffin is going to want to accomplish a lot before he leaves. Will we keep him forever, probably not, but it would be nice to see him here successful for about 10 years.

I’m Kiffin’s age and at this point in my career have reached a spot where I can confidently lead a large organization and speak with clarity on what I intend to do, with a resume that backs it up.

15 years ago (which was about 10 years into my current career), I could have articulated most of the same ideas, but my ability to actually make them happen was much less developed.

People develop. It is undeniable that the Kiffin of today (even if he retained his quirks) is a much more complete product as a head coach than the 31 year old that crashed with the Raiders or the 35 year old that crashed at USC.

Using examples from that long ago—when we now have over a decade of proof showing growth—is simply illogical.

At that time USC was a premier job.

A lot was just Coach speech. Ed O had two dream jobs, himself

At the time, USC had a pretty solid argument for being the best job in the country.
