It won't hurt us if every other SEC contender plays one less game.

Win the SEC and we are in. This game doesn't hurt or help.

TLDR whole thread but games against FCS opponents don't count in the wins/losses.
That game could've only hurt us. We play and don't ow them out= it hurts. We at and blow them out, it doesn't help any.

Absolutely correct. Have an upvote!

If we win out and are undefeated (not saying it will happen but for the sake of this thread, putting it out there) we will be in the CFB playoffs. SEC champion will probably get in with one loss. We take care of business, we are in.

I agree that not having this game on our record does not really matter if we win the SEC. But not playing this game makes it more difficult for us to get off to a good start and win the SEC. We go into the game next week without having a game under our belt to work out the kinks that are inevitable regardless of how much planning we do. Of course we have done well playing major competition to start off a season before, so it is doable. But it does give us a bit more uncertainty about how things will go next week against MSU.

It really hurts us. We are going into SEC play with no meaningful game experience.

In the 2 series we played Saturday night, we showed nothing to be proud of, especially against a team of McNeese's caliber.

Mississippi State will have the game won before we get into a rhythm.

Good god, man.

Let's just cancel the season because we didn't play McNeese ducking state.

It will go off of SEC win pct% and then win pct% anyone thinking they'll take the 12-0 team over 11-0 team is beyond retarded.

The cancellation doesn't help or hurt the team.

I guess the people who are mainly concerned are thinking of scenarios where we my not get to the SEC Championship game dues to tie-breakers.

Example:

LSU and Alabama are somehow 11-1 and 10-1

To alleviate the concerns (and I hope I'm correct), the winner of the LSU/BAMA goes to Atlanta.

Unless the SEC wants to put in a screw job, which isn't out of the question.

That's why we should have done everything we could to play Mcneese today.

frick whoever called the game.

so an undefeated Pac 12 Big 12 ACC and Big ten team get in over an undefeated SEC champ. Yeah that would never happen.

I think people are under the assumption of a 3-team (or more) tiebreaker rule that was in place before stating that the final tiebreaker would be the teams final BCS standing would decide the representative for Atlanta. Since last year, the new final tiebreaker is the said tied teams SEC east foes overall conference record now.

So this game literally has no bearing on the SEC championship game with the exception of having a tune-up before SEC play begins. It sucks that we won't get the cupcake but in the grand scheme of things if this team could get to Atlanta after Katrina and 9/11, there is no reason to believe it couldn't do it now.

I agree with you that it hurts our chances against Miss State, but this thread was about hurting our NC chances, assuming we have a great year that's worthy of being in the mix.

And a win over McNeese makes no difference.

well it'll be hard to lose a game and get in the playoffs either way with the contenders we have in our league so if we handle business and go 11-0 we will be in the playoffs bc of who we beat.

Not true. McNeese is Div 1AA or FCS or whatever. Weakest game on our schedule.

If you believe that we will be less prepared for the next game against Miss State who had a game to get ready then yes.

This hurts us against Miss State.

these are the SEC tie break rules

quote:

A. Combined head to head record among the tied teams;

B. Record of the tied teams within the division;

C. Head to head competition against the team within the division with the best overall Conference record (divisional and non divisional) and proceeding through the division (multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last and a tie for first place will be broken before a tie for fourth place);

D. Overall Conference record against non divisional teams;

E. Combined record against all common non divisional teams;

F. Record against the common non divisional team with the best overall Conference record (divisional and non divisional) and proceeding through other common non divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division; and

G. Best cumulative Conference winning percentage of non-divisional opponents (Note: If two teams' non-divisional opponents have the same cumulative record, then the two-team tiebreaker procedures apply. If four teams are tied, and three teams' non-divisional opponents have the same cumulative record, the three-team tiebreaker procedures will be used beginning with 2.A.);

overall record plays no factor in this.

All polls should be ignored

Well then forget warm ups and 'one game at a time' ... Bring on BAMA!

Don't know what that means. All games still matter, but only relative to our conference standings and the selection committee.

The various polls just don't matter anymore. And they've been a joke for decades, so this is a very good thing.

Kills them. I was not impressed with Harris. He looked just like he did last year. He was late on the long pass and 2 defenders were there. Moo state had a warm up game. We'll get beat this week for sure.
