If we win all our games and go 12-0 (SECCG included), we will be #1 in the country. An undefeated SEC West team is doesn't get locked out of anything.
Teams that will likely finished ranked on our schedule
Bama
Auburn
Ole Miss/TAMU/Arky
SECCG opponent
We will have beaten at the very least 4 ranked teams and likely 6 to stay undefeated. We also won't have the stench of an FCS opponent on our SOS resume even if McNeese St is one of the better FCS teams.
OSU went 12-1 and had 2 ranked teams on their SOS with one being the conference championship opponent. In our undefeated scenario, LSU would have wins over likely 4-5 ranked teams BEFORE we play a conference championship game.

Probably help our power rating. We would lose points against a weak opponent.

Well, not playing the game cost LSU some reps for sure. It also gets some seasonal butterflies away. However, a win against McNeese isn't important. The main factor is: no injuries. Full strength in week 2.

When does the SEC not have a screw job going on?
If those darn teams would just win and lose when they're supposed to!

Fresh legs late in the season?

I agree with you that it hurts our chances against Miss State, but this thread was about hurting our NC chances, assuming we have a great year that's worthy of being in the mix.
Does anybody think we will have a chance in hell of making the NC if we don't beat Moo State next week.
The games are played one at a time. If we (Harris) come out next week with no cohesion on O and have trouble scoring...maybe being rattled by the cowbells...ultimately leading to an L...then hell yes not playing McNeese as a real tune-up game will have been a factor.
I don't think enough effort was made to play the game, regardless of the reasons that I hear. Illinois could do it.

les miles still being the head coach is the biggest thing that hurts lsu's nc chances, not some cancelled game.

After week one ... worst record in the West ... can have long term impact.
Committee is SUBJECTIVE, same as polls. LSU (unlike some schools) is not represented in Committee vote, unless something has recently changed.

If we go 11-0 and win the SEC, this will have no bearing at all.
If we don't win the SEC, it won't be because we didn't get to have a glorified scrimmage vs. McNeese St.

If we win the SEC, it won't matter. If we don't and are a bubble team, it might make the slightest of differences.

If we go 11-0 and another team goes 12-0, we lose to them if we were competing for the fourth spot in the playoffs.
That's why we should have done everything we could to play Mcneese today.
frick whoever called the game.
Idk whats more laughable
You thinking LSU will go unbeaten
Or
You thinking that this game has any bearing whatsoever on the playoff race (assuming LSU won , of course).

Good god, man. Let's just cancel the season because we didn't play McNeese ducking state.
This is a direct quote from Dandy Don. He is saying the same thing I did. He and his father have been reporting on Louisiana football for 19 years.

Like you, I tend to believe in the old adage that a team improves more between Game 1 and Game 2 than in any other point in the season, and the team would have likely been much better prepared to face Mississippi State next week had the game been played.

Neutral to hurt. No silver lining at all

Yes, the committee is subjective but, like the basketball committee, they actually take their job seriously and take the time to analyze all relevant factors to arrive at a decision.
The polls are simply sportswriters and coaches (read: some staffer) who fills out their ballot in 2 minutes without watching or analyzing many (or any) games. The polls have always been a joke. The committee is much more legitimate.

Secret society and appointments ... USC represented, not LSU ... It's about money/market share, again, no different than the polls.
I agree their mission may be taken seriously, with football along for the ride.

Four teams vs. nationwide tourney ... folly to make such comparison.

Winning fixes everything. We just have to win.

Neither if we win all our games.
