I would say following up a Biletnikoff with a Heisman would put him up there.

Jr was actually 64 tackles, other stats are accurate.
also, he was first team AA by numerous services as a Jr. I was somewhat surprised he came back.

I doubt it. There are more and more receivers. Look at the Louisiana recruiting lists. Half of them are receivers. Every year at the NFL Draft I hear that there are more WR than every before.
If he wins the Heisman, he will be top 5. Otherwise, he will be top 10 for a while. I think that WR performance will suffer from inflation in the coming years with all rules favoring passing.
Stingly has a better chance to make the top 5 than Chase. If Stingly is a three time 1st team All American, he might get there without a Heisman. It has been done before, but not during the social media era.

shite, until Burrow he was the best I had ever seen.

wrong
he should have won the Heisman as a defensive player
If not for that synthetic weed suspension he would have. RG3 won it for a 5 loss Baylor team. Mathieu would have been the guy had it not been for that suspension.
And although that team was obviously loaded, I have never seen a defensive / special teams player lead a team like he did on the field in 2011. He’s the best defensive player I’ve ever seen in college.

Mathieu is one of the reasons LSU is where they are today. I realize they won before him but for this generation, the badger changed the game.

I think he has a solid chance to pass up Josh Reed as the best LSU WR of all time (if he hasnt already).
JaMarr Chase is hands down LSU’s best receiver of all time. This will become increasingly obvious as he gets into his NFL career. He is quick and fast, so DBs have to get handsy to stay with him, and once the pushing and shoving starts Chase separates because he manhandles the DBs.

Mathieu is not a top 5 tiger.

Even though he probably wont match his production from last season this year he will probably at least get around 1000 yds and 7-10 TDs
There’s another thread floating around about whether or not Brennan will throw for 30 td’s. Personally I would be absolutely shocked if he doesn’t easily pass 30 TD’s, much in the same way I would be if Chase ends up around 1000 yds and 7 TD’s.
I personally fully expect Chase to be around 1300-1400 yds, 12-14 TD’s and Brennan to throw somewhere in the high 30’s TD wise, if not low 40’s.

if he puts up similar numbers to last year, he's second only to joe burrow

Mathieu is the greatest playmaker In the history of the program
After watching that 2011 Oregon game replay man the honeybadger was lethal. Watching him return punts was exciting AF and we knew what he could do on defense also.

Chase has been considered by many (including me) to be on the same level of Julio Jones and AJ Green coming out. I think even in a "down" year, he gets something like 1300 yards and 13 TDs. Who is going to guard him? Guy destroyed multiple first and second round CBs.

National champion!!! Already is in my book.

The guy made like 7-8 plays in that season that would be the most memorable plays in any other season.
Burrow had the GOAT season, but it was built on consistency - incredible decision making, execution, great skill players everywhere. Burrow consistently executed, and over the course of a game it became so overwhelming that others teams got blasted.
Mathieu consistently made plays in a game that completely flipped the dynamics of the game on its head. Burrow and the offense in 2020 didn't make as many spectacular and awe inspiring plays, where you just say "how did he do that?" - not that they needed to - but my point is even after witnessing the best offense and season in CFB history, I don't think any LSU player has made as many absolute game-changing plays as Mathieu did in 2011, and don't think it will ever be topped. The type of plays Mathieu made, you maybe see that kind of play 1 time a year or so

The things you saw Tyrann Mathieu do on the football field for LSU were so amazing that you may never see another player do it all in the manner that he did. Tyrann's timing, ability to create turnovers, special teams. Should have won him the Heisman. It unfortunate how that and the following season turned out, but he is a top tiger. Might not not be top 5, but maybe 6 or 7 at the lowest.Just because there are other players who were just flat out a little more spectacular.

He doesn't need very much to get to the top of statistical categories - but to get to the top of the mountain is particularly tough for a WR.
But, as you suggest - let us assume he catches 70 passes for 1010 yards, 14 TDs - that would put him at #1 career receiving yardage (by a little), #1 career receiving TDs and #3 in career receptions (by 6 behind Wendell Davis and 5 behind Clayton).
That's probably enough - and if he catches closer to 80 passes, would be #1 in all 3 career receiving records. Plus, his key role in the Burrow revolution in 2019, Biletnikoff (which he would be the odds on favorite to win in 2020 with such a season). That should put him as a Top 3 LSU offensive player of all time (with Burrow and Cannon).

i doubt it a defensive player will never win again, unless its the only option or Arch Manning wins maybe. Suh probably should have won too. And For the Record Baylor was 10-3 in 2011. They were 7-6 the year before and had 14 losing seasons in a row before that.

Kevin Faulk is the 4th all time leading rusher in SEC history and was 2nd when he finished behind only Walker ahead of Bo Jackson. When Charles Alexander's career ended he was first. He was also 5th in the Heisman voting his Sr year. Dalton Hilliard was 3rd all time in SEC rushing when he finished at LSU. Of course Tommy Hodson was the career passing yards leader when his career ended. We've had a lot of great players come thru here. No disrespect to Chase but being top 3 is a tall order, it took an historic season to vault Burrow up there.
