Can't wait for baseball to start tomorrow night. What do you expect? Not talking about win/loss record necessarily, but just style of play. Last year was so offensive, with a murderer's row. Dugas, Morgan, Crews, White, Travenski, and throw in Jones when he was rolling. You knew you had a chance every single inning.

Pitching it seems like there was Skenes and a guaranteed win on Friday night. The rest of the staff just got better and better throughout the year and peaked at the right time. Made for some very exciting baseball.

Trying to reset myself to expect less firepower on the offensive side. Loss of an automatic win on Friday nights but probably a much deeper and diverse pitching staff. Basically a different style of ball that might not be quite as exciting but can still result in a whole bunch of wins.

Am I even in the ballpark? Not familiar with all of the newcomers so is there expected power there that I don't know about? What say you? What's going to be this team's identity?

It Will be hard to match the offense from last year. We may see a little more hit and run, likely an uptick in steal attempts as well. They’ll look to manufacture runs more than last year as we are almost certain to hit less HR’s.
As for pitching, we’ll be solid and deep but we lost two first round guys last year. It’ll be interesting to see how we measure up. We’ll likely do really well prior to SEC play but conference play will give us a true barometer of the team.
Till then, enjoy the wins and the tinkering.

One thing is for sure...there will be a massive melt after the 1st loss.

Same as last year after we lost to Iowa. The little kids on this board can't help themselves.

This is the part of the season where we think we’re going undefeated, reset expectations when we lose one and half the board wants to fire Jay.

Rough crowd :-)

I didn't know I said anything controversial. I really am just trying to get my head ready for the season and excited about the start being 24 hours away.

90% down votes for asking a couple of questions is actually pretty funny.

Let the DVs continue, and hopefully a couple more actual answers.

Particularly interested in thoughts on newcomers on either side of the ball. Easy to read their bio but who do you guys think could actually be an impact player in their first year in purple and gold.?

Transfers Braswell and Bingham. Freshman Milam, Brown and Larson. Transfer pitchers Holman, Jump, Loer, Ulloa and Woods. Freshmen pitchers Mitchell and Anderson.

The pitching staff is top to bottom the best since probably 2009. We have legitimate 4-5 weekend starters. We shouldn’t have to score 8-9 runs to win.

My biggest worry is the middle infield. I think it will settle in by mid season. I think Braswell can be a big impact. They also need to find someone that can hit in front of Tommy to protect him from getting walks.

There is going to be some experimenting going on the first 3-4 series.

This team can absolutely make it to Omaha. We have the best coach in America.

I wasn't really trying to castigate you, just commenting on how fickle parts of this fanbase can be.

My expectations are for this team to be competitive with a reasonable chance of having the best SEC record this season and should have a very good chance of making the CWS. Because baseball is streakier than any other sport, I am always hesitant to speculate on how any team will perform in the postseason much less who will win the whole thing.

So no reset of expectations for me, this will be a very good team and I try not to have unreasonable expectations anyway.

There were a ton of people who didn’t think lsu would or should have hosted a regional and then when the tigers did, a ton of people thought Oregon State was going to wax them. This board is soaked in retardation when it comes to baseball

Honestly, I expect pitching to be even more of a strength than it was last year after we really get rolling. Come SECT, I think it'll be pretty damn difficult to beat us with the arms we have. I expect Pearson to go completely off this year. If Jones can figure out how to turn on a curve ball, he'll do the same. Travinski will do Travinski things and our new guys will show us why they were recruited to the best program in America. Tommy Tanks will do more of the same this year. My biggest worry is our guys staying healthy. Though, Tommy's shoulder popped out like 25 times last year and we still won a natty, so who knows lol. It'll be a fun year and I expect another natty. I hope and pray it's a showdown against Wake and we stomp em in two games.

It isn't just limited to baseball but it does seem to be worse for baseball.

It’s the worst for basketball. The thing with LSU is the baseball culture is so big that it attracts a lot of attention from people who otherwise wouldn’t know much about baseball.

And we had a Dynasty run at one point. Some idiots think that’s easy to reproduce in todays game.

Loss of an automatic win on Friday nights

We lost an automatic good pitching performance, but the win was not automatic. We lost two SEC starts for Skenes. Then we almost lost to Wake when Skenes started and their pitcher also pitched a masterpiece. It took that crazy play by Morgan to save that. We won, but it was anything but automatic.

I think they put Bingham ahead of Tommy White in the lineup and Travinski behind White. Those 3 should have very productive numbers. Really hoping Kling and Braswell can be effective in the lineup as well. And either Frey or Jones will be the other power hitter in the lineup it all depends on if Jones can figure it out but he will be given the first crack at it. Do think Frey will see time at 1B if Jones struggles in game 1.
