I can't remember an LSU team since Miles arrived that was better at end of the year than they were at the beginning. I do not include bowl games in this bc bowl games happen a month after the season.

I think we come out sloppy most years as far as penalties and mistakes. We usually get that fixed and they dont seem to be a big issue during SEC play. Offensively, it has been a while since we had to break in a new qb. I expect his play will dictate how much we open up the playbook. It could be a huge improvemnet if they feel he is handling the offense well thus far.

you know opponents are better teams later in the season than they are at the beginning of the season.

2006 and 2010, even with out the bowls. 2005 team was worn out and only had one bad game, the SEC CG. 2007 injuries were taking a toll. 2011 was the same all season, really so was 2008.

2005 and 2006, no question.

Do assume we didn't improve in 2010 because we wound up losing to Arkansas?

the guy looking for another reason to bash Miles is assuming that, but that team was clearly better by year end and as noted he wants to discount bowls because it hurts his argument.

We've never started this many freshman/backup/young players before. The defense DEFINITELY is improving over the season purely based on experience gained from the first games.

Offense is still working on its identity and the OL losses have hurt. I'm not sure the O has a team leader to the same extent Sam and the veterans are on D either.

So Miles vs. not-Miles is a thing again on the rant?

I think there are a lot of variables to consider in this question. Competition at the end of a season is typically better (SEC-level) than competition at the beginning of a season. Players are typically less healthy at the end of the season than the beginning. Opponents also have more film (aka more data on how to beat you) at the end of the season than the beginning.

I kind of get his point. In 2009 and last year the offense clearly regressed, so it definitely isn't true that the team always improves.

you mean the offenses did not do was well as the schedule got tougher? Also in 2009, didn't the top 2 RB's get hurt? Wonder if that was a factor?

2007?

Are you kidding me? The most complete game LSU has played under the Miles' era came against Va. Tech in September that season. Only to be followed up with two losses (including a late season home loss to an unranked team).

2006 is really the only season that I think you can argue we got better as the season progressed. I think with a four team playoff system in 2006, LSU would have been the best team in the country at the end of that season.

They always get better. Opponents do too. Stupid question.

None of this matters. It's clear with Miles at the helm, we will be lucky to win a single game.

2006 definitely fits the bill and you need not include the Sugar Bowl win over ND. Tigers had two clunker games (on offense) relatively early against Auburn and Florida and improved a great deal by season's end winning big road games against top 10 opponents.

I'm not getting into this argument. I'm not trying to take sides one way or the other. It seems some years there is a lot of improvement and some years you wonder what they do in practice all week.

in 06 we got better, 07 we werent playing great at the end of the year, 08 we sucked all year, 09 we were the same all year, 10 the same all year, last year we were pretty consistent for the most part in steam rolling people.

05 hard to judge based on circumstances surrounding that year.
