I feel like he did, It seems to me like all year he pitched away from contact which having a defense with issues will cause that but it puts your pitchers in a bad position with an increase in walks (which is why we lead the nation in strikeouts and walks) which in turn puts pressure on the defense. Last night it seems like they just went straight at people and just let the game play out. If we could have got all year what we got last night we would be in a lot better position granted our offense went cold for a good bit of the first half of SEC play

I think big park plus limited arms, he needed to be more efficient with pitch count so as not to drain the pen

Big park and the ABS prevented the ump from squeezing the pitchers. Yeskie wants the pitchers to paint the black too much, and I think we don't get those calls in a normal game. With the ABS, maybe the umps are expanding their zone knowing they are being checked.

It’s nice to know that it took until now for him to finally start pitch calling like that. When LSU is on the doorstep of their season ending in every game now. Glad he didn’t try this 6 weeks ago.

Or maybe the pitchers were just more consistent?

What I expected as pitch placement didn't seem to be very different, if at all. Just the number of misses seemed considerably lower.

I felt like he called more fastballs for Guidry.

But it could have just been that Guidry had more pitches working and it allowed him to call pitches in an atypical way for him.

Valid point, and it highlights the nuance in baseball, even in pitch selection.

It gets very simple when players are doing the things they were expected to be able to do.

Went and looked back at Yeskie coached team records in bigger parks during the post season and found it pretty interesting.
Hoover Met 9-3 (LSU & Aggie)
Charles Schwab Field 16-10 (OSU, Zona, Aggie, LSU)

And the ABS strike zone is huge.

That's helping to some degree, but the biggest way ABS is helping is that it forces the umpire to give both teams the same zone.

Which is why fans criticizing any type of play or pitch calling is absolutely retarded.

We see about 10% of the picture, have the benefit of hindsight, and then try to tell the dude what he should have done. It's nuts

Do you realize the average miss in the MLB is ~12 inches?

I know that everyone keeps repeating this but no one can explain how that applies to guys that had the talent last year to dominate but suddenly aren’t SEC level talent.
