I don’t know what happened, but on a similar play last night he did about the same thing.

He has no clue how to judge a ball that spins back towards the field.
IIRC it was from a RH hitter, so it didn’t spin back to the field.

I guess it kinda offsets the freaking amazing centerfield playing by Crews

I’m wondering because he had a fly earlier in that same area and misplayed it, then adjusted and caught the out.

He drifted too far to his left and had to come back right and didn't go far enough. He flat misplayed the ball.

He’s not even the worst defensive player we’ve had in the last two seasons. There was a guy who was given a guarantee he could play in the field if he transferred here last season. He was worse in the field.

We have 3 DH's in the lineup. Beloso, Joubert and White.
White is now fielding at .818, but the rant thinks that is serviceable. Berry was at least above .900 last year.

Routine play, doesn’t matter.

I guess you missed Thompson's 200 errors last year at short?
He's improved this year. Not saying he hasn't made any errors but he's improved.

He didn’t lose it, he misplayed it.

Dylan Crews misjudged a ball this game too just wasn’t as costly.
Dylan’s was completely different. Fly ball right at you can be impossible to pick up the distance right off the bat. It wasn’t as costly because he played it properly…

true dat = the absolute worst situation - other than sun directly behind ball.

Yeah you obviously never saw Josh Dalton play.

Misjudging the distance of a ball hit directly at you isn’t anything like misjudging the angle and overrunning a ball hit to your left or right. A centerfielder needs to either break back or freeze in Crew’s situation. Better to give up a single than a triple and avoid allowing runners into scoring position. There is a reason that managers play outfielders play deeper and have 1B and 3B hug the lines late in close games.

The same thing happened earlier in the game to Kentucky's first baseman. It looked as though he overran the foul ball and it dropped behind him, but it was probably the wind moving the ball further to the field. Same scenario, cept ours hurt a lot more.

I think he was running full speed and knew the fence was coming up. Glanced either at the fence or foul line and lost it.

He only played the infield corners in HS. He has no clue what he’s doing in the outfield having never played there until college. Jay chooses his bat over his defense. Else Pearson would be starting. Sucks that we took a 3-run error.
