Adding a RHP that sits 96 and will top out at 98-99 with a good slider will always be welcome on the staff, even if it is only for 1-2 months.

All that being said, I wouldnt expect much from Sheerin at all this year even if he does come back. He had control problems last season and I dont see that changing in the short time he would be coming back from a long time off. He might have some mid week appearances and throw in a blowout or two....but hard to see him coming in a 5-4 game in the 7th inning of a regional or super regional or something like that.

Sheerin k/9 was insane last year.

I don't agree with the control issues angle...

70IP 109K/32BB 10HBP, from 2 starts and 16 bullpen appearances.

Sure you want less HBP and a few less walks, but for a relief arm to tally 70 innings and 14 K/9, that's an arm that could carve a serious role and all it takes is 1 good outing.

It is different, but my point is that Jay being optimistic about a return isn’t exactly evidence that they will be returning to the lineup

I think what you and others in this thread are just being pessimistic because of how Jay is with injuries. I've been one to say it, Jay doesn't disclose much about injuries and is vague on status.

However, when Jay says "he threw a bullpen Thursday" that gives me a decent bit of optimism that he will be back this year in some form or fashion. This isn't an arm injury, or fickle back injury like Guidry, it's a torn ACL. He could have been doing plenty of arm and upper body work during his rehab process while waiting for his knee to get healthy enough to support a bullpen session.

Once his knee is healthy enough and he doesn't have any setbacks, all it is from there is ramping up his arm as they do with others before the season. Then we hopefully see him in midweek games and go from there.

I love Jay as our HC but its been proven over time that Jay is prone to speak with exageration and in best case scenarios. Not all the time but often. In his short time at LSU, he has coached/recruited multiple "best player he has ever seen".

This is not directed at you, but I just wanted to defend Jay a little against some who think Jay lies about injuries.

We are blessed to have one of the best college baseball coaches in the country, easily top 3. He is also very gracious with his time for the media and is very forthcoming with information, particularly injuries.

Medicals can be very tricky, and Jay is just relaying the information he receives from the trainers and provides us with expectations on when they will return based off the information he has at that point in time.

We should appreciate that and understand that sometimes those expectations will not be met. Instead, people want to bash him and call him a liar. The alternative could exist where he doesn’t say anything or pulls a Les Miles and says “he has a knee/back/arm”.

Ok, back to Devin Sheerin

I can't imagine he would want to burn a year of eligibility to come back so late in the season.

I can’t imagine not playing if you are healthy. I doubt he needs all his years anyways.

I feel like lsu is really missing sheerin.

Imo he was going to easily be a top 5 guy before the yr.

I appreciate your post and I agree. I want to clarify that I am not calling Jay a liar. I think he hopes for the best and relays that to the fans. I don't think he'd mention Sheerin if him pitching wasn't a possibility but I also don't think that him mentioning it as a possibility means that its definitely going to happen. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, Sheerin's body will make the decision.

It’s also important to note that Koki asked about Sheerin, Jay didn’t intentionally come to the media with this news.

For the 99% of you that assumed he was certainly out for the year.

Put me in that number for sure.

Good news though.

Yeah well he said we saw the last of Schmitt in midweek because he didn't expect him to all of the sudden not be able to locate his pitches for 3 weeks

It's been a while at this point, but I'm pretty sure he actually said it was probably the last time we'd see him start a midweek game.

When was the last time Gavin threw bullpen?

If you don't see Sheerin by the next midweek game, I wouldn't expect anything.

The reason none of us are coaches is because we don’t understand the psychology of the game.JJ is trying to keep his players by giving them some optimism about coming back and playing.Phyclogically keeps them focused on rehab to improve and be part of the team .

Absolutly. All I am saying is if he is going to pitch in the postseason this year, they will need to see him in games very soon, and the fact that he has thrown in the pen recently is different than Guidry.
