His SEC stats are even crazier.

SEC Only:
16 appearances - 2 wins, 11 saves
1.59 ERA
0.85 WHIP
28.1 IP - 48K/8BB
.160 BAA

For example, think about how valuable Cowan was to LSU and compare their numbers:
14 appearances - 1 win, 3 losses, 5 saves
2.93 ERA
1.19 WHIP
30.2 IP - 34K/8BB
.241 BAA

This is what I was referring to when I said his value to Texas was more than Curiel's value to LSU.

I don't know what he did in the non-conference. I know the awards aren't done this way, but they should be based on conference only.

As another poster above mentioned hopefully this gives him a chip on his shoulder and he mashes during the postseason.

As long as the chip is on the shoulder that isn't hurt.

Volantis value relative to Texas probably exceeded Curiel's value relative to LSU.

That's interesting. Why do you say that? Volantis pitched in the equivalent of a little over 4 games. Curiel played in 55. Volantis was really good, but there wasn't much of him in the season relatively speaking.

I didn't think my resentment for Texas could grow to this extent within just a year of them joining the conference.

Chris Rembert of Auburn has a better argument if going with position players.

All games
.355/ .485/ .590
OPS of 1.075
40 RBI

SEC games only
.376/ .485/ .615
OPS of 1.100
22 RBI

Curiel was

All games
.344/ .465/ .522
OPS of 0.987
45 RBI

SEC games only
.296/ .385/ .440
OPS of .825
25 RBI

Being objective, no one else on any team was even close to Rembert.

Kid pitched like 43 innings . Kid is good but to beat out everyday l player that has preformed like DC has is nuts. SEC still sucking Longhorn penis.

the same way Kevin Kopps won the Golden Spikes

He logged about 40 more innings than Volantis and had 12 wins to go with his 11 saves. It was impressive.

I don’t see how one can compare a sustained high-level workflow over six times more playing time.

But it is what it is

Because Volantis was one of the best pitchers in the SEC. 1.66 ERA in 43.1 IP with 64Ks and only 11 BBs.

Dang. LSU freshman Schmidt had 20 walks in 30 innings. Could’ve been him.

Volantis pitched in 16 of their 30 SEC games. That's an absurd number for a relief pitcher, much less a freshman relief pitcher. And to have a 1.59 ERA and .160 OppBA is even more absurd given that volume.

So if Curiel doesn't have a ball hit to him or doesn't get an AB in an inning, can we say he didn't play that inning? A pitcher literally takes part in every single pitch while he's on the mound. A left fielder doesn't. A hitter takes part in 1/9 of the offense while in the game. A pitcher takes part in 100% of the "defense" while in a game.

This wasn't even close to the biggest hack job on the postseason awards. Root getting 1st Team over Eyanson was way worse.

You can say whatever it is you want about it. He had 260 PAs in 55 games, batting first in virtually all of them to boot. That's pretty maxed out in terms of playing time. Volantis can be justified in several ways, comparative usage is not even close.

12 saves, 4-0 record as a freshman. Can't be mad about that.

LSU had a combined 13 saves as a team. Replace a few of those blown games with saves and LSU wins the SEC.
