He was taken off of LB responsibility before he was let go though. After O was made interim, Peveto was ST only. I think.
Orgeron made it clear that Jackass was taken off his LB duties and focused entirely on ST in his introductory PC as Interim HC. Considering that he also hired a special teams consultant to help out down the stretch, it is clear that O didn't trust Peveto to do anything.
Miles' obsession with his buddy was almost DiNardo/Tepper like.

I think Dennis really impressed during bowl practices helping Aranda install his new full scheme.
I trust Aranda. I just hope Dennis J. can recruit his arse off. I absolutely hate when people say "we have enough recruiters on staff". That's bullshite. You never have enough recruiters on staff. They are plenty of guys coaching that can both recruit and coach at a high level. We have money to burn to get this type of guy.

Allen committed to Bama the night after Peveto was fired. Before that, he was considered a strong LSU lean.
Where do you people get this stuff. He tried to commit to Bama at the beginning of the season and it wasn't commitable. He isn't and never was coming here

IF Aranda is ok with Dennis Johnson then so am I.

The fact that he was sought by many P5 programs after Orgeron fired him indicates BDP is a valuable recruiting asset.
Haven't we tried filling the whole staff with guys that were better recruiters than they were coaches? That shite didn't work under Les, admittedly partly because of his scheme. But I am ready to see in game adjustments and coaches coach instead of a lethargic sideline winning 9 games a year on mostly just talent.

correct, they said they wanted him to solely focus on the STs....and he promptly has gamble kick one out of bounds. He and Les combined to wreak havoc on STs with their stupid bullshite.

Re any possible Coach O dislike for BDP: there has to be something there as he was fired the next day and to date, is the only position coach let go.

Yeah, I can't really understand the knighting for Peveto in this thread.
It's okay to be wary of giving a GA a full time gig with no other experience. And it's okay to do that without questioning why the guys he's replacing actually needed to be replaced.
I don't really understand this move. I did read someone on 247 say that Johnson has shown to be a good recruiter already. Though I have zero clue on what that could be based.

Not sure why this is bitch-worthy.

I think this is obvious. All head coach wants his own buddy so in most cases the new head coach builds his own staffs instead of retaining existing ones. BDP is Miles buddy and not coach O's. Apparently coach O already has his judgement on Cameron and BDP before he was even promoted. He got rid of Cameron and another Miles buddy in staff right after promoted to interim HC, and get rid of BDP right after becoming HC.
I am not saying BDP is not a good recruiter. I just think O really doesn't like him on staff.

now a days, considering our competition, you need them in the front office and in all depts too... you know, for those 'loopholes'
On BDP being let go...
If CEO and Thomas are switching to a results oriented meritocracy, then BDP had to be let go. The results spoke for themselves on the field.

I'll be that guy.
I'm going to go out on a limb that a young black guy who played at LSU might be a better than average recruiter.
I wouldn't be surprised if he could out recruit a old bald pasty white dude with glasses.

Where else has BDP coached and how good of a recruiter was he?
Peveto coached safetys 3 seasons ago. Then lbs the past year and half before miles was fired. Safetys did great that year with Jamal having a breakout year and lbs have been top in the sec the past 2 years.
Was also one of miles best recruiters. Covered north florida and houston
But every new coach needs his ppl to succeed. And while I think BDP did good at recruiting and positional coaching our sp teams have sucked and that should have been his number one priority

From his actions on the sideline with Les, I think BDP thought of himself as needing to be in the head coach's ear with his insight into the game. Admittedly without any knowledge of the LSU chemistry on the sideline, I personally think when the head coach is being bombarded by assistants with information they can't process the game in real time and lose focus. The head coach should be the one telling assistants the direction of the game and delegating. Of course if an assistant occasionally gives some insight, that's ok, but BDP seemed over the top.
This was one of my biggest frustrations with the Miles era, BDP in his ear and face the whole game. It made Miles look confused often and Miles is known for poor clock management. I don't know if it was because of BDP or if BDP was trying to help, but it was frustrating.
I think CEO evaluated BDP's contributions, fired him and has now decided a GA is a better fit for the OLB coaching position... That's pretty telling. I've never been a fan of Peveto. I appreciate some of his wins on the recruiting trail, but as a coach he was obviously not very valuable.
