O was recruiter of the year at USC. I never read BDP received that honor.

I'm glad the BBQ man is gone. He was a terrible ST coach.

Yall think Nick Saban would hire a fricking GA to coach one of the positions? Frick no!

Don't like this move. Reeks of "Settling" for Mediocrity. Need a LB coach? Go hire an experienced and proven one.

LSU isn't exactly tearing it up in LB recruiting. How is hiring an inexperienced GA going to help in this area?...................

Peveto was simply a terrible coach on the field. His tactics put us in more bad situations in games than any other I knew of. You can be the best recruiter all you want, but if it doesn't show on the field then what is the point?

Kirby Smart was a GA at Florida State when Saban hired him to be the DB coach at LSU.

There are a couple of other examples.

I don't think O liked BDP. That and/or he just wanted all of "Miles'" BFFs gone.

That's completely fair and I don't have a problem with it.

O brought Freeze up from his HS HC job to Ole Miss ands eventually Freeze became a darn good HC. He fired BDP. Fired Cam. Promoted Johnson to LB coach. Maybe O is a little better evaluator of coaching talent than people give him credit. Who knows? We may be talking about the O coaching tree years from now.

Best comment yet.

Kirby Smart was a defensive coordinator at Valdosta St prior to going to Florida St.

Orgeron and Aranda have a much better "scoop" of how he is as a coach and recruiter than any of us. I'm sure neither is willing to promote unless they feel he would do his job well.

I was not in favor of the O hire at all. But Johnson could easily end up being a great recruiter. There is no doubt Orgeron can recruit, and that people who worked for him, or were mentored by him, ended up becoming great recruiters (Frank Wilson, Hugh Freeze).

I'm sorry, but what does Nick Saban have to do with any of this?

We've all seen that Aranda knows exactly what he's doing on defense, I don't think anyone doubts him at this point.

If Aranda likes what he has seen from Johnson since his mid-season promotion, then I trust him. I tend to side with the guys that shuts down playoff teams and Heisman winners.

Sign him up! I remember him signing with Auburn out of HS.

Can we all just agree that LSU needs great coaches who can recruit very well?

That's good w/ me. I've heard ad nauseum how good a recruiter BDP was, then I heard he was a national recruiter of the year. I've always questioned his overall credentials, both as a coach and as a recruiter. I just hoped to get some 3rd party validation of his recruiting prowess. I trust Orgeron to decide whether BDP's overall skills were of sufficient value to the coaching staff. Apparently they weren't.
