It is all about market price. If other playoff caliber coaches are getting 10 years 10M+ contacts, you have to match the number or go over to have a chance to hire one of such coaches. The way to have a cheaper contract is to go after a G5 HC or a coordinator. Even if in that case, 3 year contact is too short for a HC.
I don’t like the conservative approach either. It would have been better to secure a two-score advantage to seal the game. However, given how the defense performed against their offense in the second half, I can understand the rationale behind the coach’s decision—and it did work in the end. We should not do this to a team with an explosive offense.
He waited patiently for his turn and showed flashes in this three starts. Two season ending injuries basically ended his career. The injuries were also pretty weird. The first one had many versions and was not considered a severe one at beginning. The second one is a freaking fishing accident. I think if he was not that unlucky he could be a solid starting QB.
The score is not that important. Facing a much weaker opponent I want to see flawless executions on both offense and defense. I want to see effective passing attack in the middle and balanced running game, not just QB scramble and come back route.

We then blow out a cupcake and claim the problems have been fixed, until being exploited by next SEC opponent again. Sounds familiar.
It has nothing to do with fan pressure. BK plays JD because he believes JD gives us best chance to win. If the game outcome shows other wise he will make a change.
Coaches all have their shares of stubbornness but most would change when he recognizes his approach does not work. Miles was famous for his ground and pound philosophy, yet he hired a 35 year old OC to run spread offense in Kansas. If JD's poor passing continues SEC play I think BK will make a change.
I agree with your analysis but not so optimistic on the season outlook. In current CFB that favors offense, you have to have an explosive offense to hang with the big boys. Plus the defense flaw is unfixable. I expect two more losses in SEC play, may be three.
While offense did not cost the game, being shut-off the second half outside the garbage time won't win any game.

They did the same thing Arky did last season

After Arky figured out how to shutdown JD, ATM, Georgia and FSU in the second half followed the blueprint and did it successfully. It will be tried by any SEC team that has the matching talent level.

This happened last year in goal stand situation and we all wondered the same thing. I have a hard time understanding why the coaching staff cannot fix it after a full spring and fall camp. How hard it can be to install a few short yard formations/plays?
It is reading defense matchup and route anticipation, i.e. throwing your receiver open. JD cannot do that. He is reactive so he frequently holds on the ball for too long and the throw is late. This is obvious from last season and for some reason we were led to believe JD suddenly improves.
Not saying the coordinators are any good but the head coach hired the best coordinators in his mind or he could get. What makes you think the next hire will definitely be better?
Joe is ranked pretty high on shortest time to throw and sacked categories. Given him an average OL support he can dismantle most defense piece by piece. He should have won the super bowl last year if the Bengals OL was not eaten alive by the Rams DL.

Yes, I saw he representing LSU in intro before. Maybe he just want to show case his high school this time and no need to read too much into it.

Brutally honest reality check

Many fans and even the playoff committee were too optimistic about this team after beating Bama. The reality is this is not a play-off caliber team and has serious weakness on both offense and defense. A great team may lose to an inferior opponent, but never in a blow out fashion to a 4-7 team. The team lacks talents in key positions and got exploited today.
LSU won half of its championships during the time I was there. I often entertain the idea of getting another degree at LSU after retirement, just in case it brings another one.
Exactly. After half of the season, the offense still did not have an identity and could not sustain drives, and the defense was as good as initially thought when facing a capable offense.

We all get the W-L record is not that important for this year. However, the team's performance in the game does not give me a reason to be optimistic for next season.
A good QB can make a team looks very different, and vice versa.

That was a really tough catch that he could not let drop.

Shouldn't he let it go? The kick was going out of bound anyway and we will start from 35.
