How in the world can you take a job at a SEC school and be surprised at the level of competition your team is gonna face?

That is pretty astounding.

It was clear from watching games this season that Denbrock was surprised by the defenses he would face. The Tenn game was a perfect example with all of their stunting a blitz schemes. LSU offense looked unprepared for that!

Denbrock and crew gets extensive film and breakdowns, and you're telling my they were unprepared for what they saw?
Yikes!

I think "unprepared for in-game adjustments" is a better way to phrase it

I don't think it's even that. Defenses are different in the SEC, from top to bottom than what he's coached against. The worst teams in the SEC have future NFL starters on defense. It's the reason the SEC has dominated playoffs for the most part.

No other league is gonna roll out their version of Arkansas, MSU, and Ole Miss and have future NFL starters on the DL that can dominate you. And seeing it on film doesn't help, or you'd see other conferences fair better against the SEC.

I like the direction that Kelly is taking the program but honestly, I think we were out game-planned most games on both sides of the ball. That’s why we were one of the worst first quarter teams. Sometimes we made good in game adjustments and came back. I am hoping to see some proof of a game plan tomorrow.

Denbrock outcoached the staff at Miss St, Ole Miss, Alabama, Fla, and Saban at Alabama. And for the second half of the Ga game, he owned Kirby’s defense.

We got beat a lot early in the season by not picking up blitzes in our pass protection.
I just e-mailed Brad Davis and told him he needs to do a better job teaching his OL how to pick up blitzes in pass protection. (CC'ed to Kelly and Denbrock. )

No more OL excuses in 23. Everybody is back.

Dellinger needs to be in the starting 5 somewhere. In the Spring, put him back in at LG and move Frazier over to RG; maybe try Dellinger again at Center.

Center is still the weak link. (Where the Frick is Renfro?)

Campbell, Dellinger, Renfro, Frazier, Jones.

Denbrock and House are very good coordinators, they took a mixture of players and won the West. They know what they want in players.

I absolutely agree, yet in hindsight him saying this after winning the West yr.1 is even more refreshing.

Dude. He's not saying he was underestimating his opponents, he's saying the SEC is different from other conferences. Teams don't put in a defensive scheme at the beginning of the season in the SEC and just play with it no matter what like most teams in other conferences do. They change from week-to-week with nuance and sometimes wholesale for a game here or there and you have to be prepared for that. All of that affects game-planning (pre-season) and preparation (pre-season offensive installation). The idea is to have answers for what defenses try to against you within the game, but you can't just make plays up during the game that the team has never practiced.

Because the Big 12, Big 10, Pac-12 (whatever?) are not the SEC as a whole when it comes to football.

Again, many posters are idiots. There is nothing wrong with what he said. The SEC is literally the minor leagues of football. Ofc it takes time to change scheme and adapt if you’ve never coached against this level of talent. It’s the reason why recruiting is more important because the best players make scheme MUCH EASIER. It’s why no matter how good of a coach CBK is, or Lincoln Riley or whoever, they couldn’t beat SEC teams because of the talent. It’s an adjustment. Get over it.

I think what Denbrock said partly explains why this team always started so slow.

Absolutely not, obviously they need to put in way more time and that’s not always a guarantee you’ll be successful. Sometimes players just blow up your game plan because they constantly whip your guys.

It does, LSU fans knew or should have known that coming into the SEC for any coach from up north was partly going to be a learning experience. It is refreshing to hear Denbrock acknowledge what he needs to get better at coaching in the SEC.

He’s being paid very handsomely to estimate the talent correctly and draw up and execute gameplans.

It's funny how Kelly said earlier in the year, how they had added more RPO because it was going to play into the hands of Jayden Daniels better, hmmm. It's a funny thing.
