Spying only works against shitty passers who are good scramblers. That used to be Milroe, but no longer is. The answer is that we should have used a disciplined cage rush. That is probably what was called, and our defensive linemen probably just did not execute it. Maybe missing a dline coach is the problem, IDK.

All of these posters saying they should have spied Milroe are just pressing the easy button. I think it is something they could have done five or six times, but who is to say they would have executed that any better than they executed their cage

I agree that you can't just spy milroe every down. The linebackers are a big problem against the running game and running qbs. Penn and speights are always out of position and missing tackles.

House Def has his hands ties behind his back. He just makes zero adjustments.

Why didn't he put perkins in the middle of the field spying a few times and bringing him on a delayed blitz on passing downs.

Perkins up the a gap untouched.

We have the worst front 7 since 1998. With that said House has done nothing to help them out and has had pathetic schemes in multiple games this season. He honestly thinks he can sit cbs 10 yards off the ball in the SEC like it's the 2000s offenses the conference used to have.

The problem with BK keeping House would be knowing that the D will do a complete 180 next season. BK being somewhat clueless about his D being so bad going into the Fla. St. game was disappointing.
Everybody team has to deal with injuries. If House stays and it’s more of the same next season, BK will be the one feeling the heat.

I think it’s time we admit Perkins just isn’t having a great year

The defensive staff’s galaxy brain tendencies in terms of his usage doesn’t help (esp week 1) but aside from the pick against mizzou and the odd negative play he’s been a missed tackle machine

Step back from last season but again he’s not totally responsible.

LINK

I think talent level is largely the problem. My view is largely based on NFL draft talent. The link above shows you LSU's NFL draft history. IN the 2023 draft, LSU had 4 NFL picks (no 1st round talent), Ojulari 2nd, Ward-4th, Roy 5th and Bernard-Converse 5th. The first 3 were Coach O's recruits that were still on roster, Bernard-Converse was brought in by Coach BK in the portal.

I think LSU last year was a good defense, not great, not even very good, but good. I think 5th in SEC in scoring and maybe 8th in total defense. We were 34th in NCAA in scoring defense at 22 points per game and giving up 342 yards per game which was top 50.

Looking at this 2023 LSU defense, I am having a hard time finding even 4 NFL draft picks

Personally I think “next man up” means exactly that. Everyone is at the same practice and learning the same playbook.

You think a freshman CB had attended the same # of practices as a jr or sophomore? Experience matters.

Do Marshall, BYU, South Carolina, Georgia State, or Western Kentucky have better personnel than LSU?

Recruiting and transfer portal metrics say “no.” Yet all of these schools are ahead of lsu in national scoring defense.

House is paid $2.5 a year. He’s fielded the worst defense in school history, wasting one of the best offenses in school history and costing Daniels a Heisman trophy.

He should have been fired before the bye week.

If so, he shouldnt be running his defense and needs to adjust.

He has. That's why the play so much zone pass defense, our guys get beat one on one. In the past we always had at least one lock down CB, sometimes two. Not this year and probably not next year.

We rank on average about 100th in defensive statistics nationally.

In order for House to keep his job - you’d have to suggest he has the 130th worst talent, and he’s “coached them up” to 100th.

Reality is the exact opposite.

Transfers or no transfers...this lsu defense has talent but lacks good pre alignment defense, refuses to create pressure up the middle, not aggressive enough, too much zone etc...I mean at the end of the day scheme and creativity is a thing ya know and having your best pass rusher in the slot is just beyond why Matt house needs to go

Incompetence and being completely over his head is what’s preventing House from succeeding.

We are on the same page

Losing two DBs is not ideal either

As someone mentioned I do wonder if the potential coaching changes defensively are playing a role in recruiting

You can't be paid what he is paid at this school and have your defense play like ours does. The reason doesn't even matter. Only the results.

Agreed

Believe he’s the highest paid coordinator in college football

Exactly what?

I did NOT say I agree that House should stay

We are down a few guys, but that should not = 2nd worst in the conference behind Vandy

I didn’t suggest shite

Simply reading the tea leaves with what announcers are saying

Personally I think it’s 50/50 if he returns

I hope we move on

First order of business for a DC is recognize your personnel and highlight their strengths while masking deficiencies. Any coach at Houses level knows Xs and Os but when you can’t identify what your talent is and even worse refuse to build on the successes they do have you can’t be a successful DC.
