Defense not as stout as LSU fans thought, Burrow is better than we thought

LSU defense will improve but its' nowhere near where many assumed it was, among the top in the league, however that will change with time. So will the Oline improve, once players get healthy. Then its game on! Burrow looks like Drew Brees when he has the time to throw.

Burrow had a good game. He wasn't protected that great but his receivers had some big time drops against a good defense that would have changed the game.

Felipe Franks looked like Brees when we gave him 7 seconds to throw every ball. Good grief. Fromm is going to rip us a new one

A lot of people on this board blame the offense and OC after we lose a game. That’s always the go to for the negatigers but the truth is it’s this defense that hasn’t looked too sharp so far. The o-line doesn’t look good but there are some injuries on the line.

My concern is that front 7 especially the d-line. Most of the time we only blitz the line and count on them to bring pressure and they rarely do. Why hasn’t Arnada blitzed more is what’s baffling me. 3 or 4 guys trying to get pressure on the QB when there are 5-6 guys protecting the QB just doesn’t sound smart to me. Need to start blitzing more with the LBs

I thought Franks looked pretty terrible regardless of time to throw

Serious question. This prediction is based upon what? LSU is not playing a ton of young and/or inexperienced guys on that side of the ball. IMO, the DL/OLBs have been disappointing thus far. But where could we expect improvement in those units? Shelvin clearly isn't going to play. Chassion is not coming back this season. The only new person I see MAYBE making a difference is Travez Moore who played a bit and seem to at least make the QB step up on his few rushes, but that's about it. Personnel-wise what you see is what you got.

Absent Brumfield, the OL is probably about as "healthy" as they've been since early in the season. That's pretty good as the halfway point, but they just played their worst game.

I didn't realize one super bowl victory and a career of garbage time stats got you in the Hall of Fame these days.

The defense is 15th in the nation in scoring, 22nd in turnovers forced and top 15 in efficiency.

The only people who are disappointed are the idiots that convinced themselves this was the 2nd coming of the 2011 squad.

Franks is/was terrible. We just lost to a guy that completed 12 passes

It would’ve been nice to have Phillips and Chaisson on Saturday

Time to put it behind us and move forward.

It was a poor game plan by Aranda from the start, should have loaded the box with 8 and make Franks beat you with his passing.

Defense isn't playing up to their potential. But that TD from Franks was a good play call vs a defense. Single safety in the middle and the CB got beat on the corner. Safety couldn't get there.

What I heard repeated Saturday over and over again, was that LSU's got them a QB!

I somewhat agree with you here.

But giving up 200 rushing yards should never happen.

That's not good defense, that's bad.

shows what a guy like Chaisson brought to the table with this D. Missing that elite pass rusher.

That's only part of it.

Not having a pass rush has nothing to do with getting bullied in the trenches and giving up over 200 yards rushing.

Sure it's a problem, but 20 points given up is not. I don't really care what any of you say, the defense is not the main reason LSU lost Saturday. In fact, on the list of reasons the defense is probably 4th or 5th.
