His family was hit hard by COVID-19. He plans to return to the team next season, he says. More than 30 Power 5 players have now opted out.

But people can take the necessary precautions to help prevent it hitting their family.
And apparently, that must have not happened in this case

Thanks for everything Neil, I hope everything works out for you and your family and hopefully we can see you in that PNG one more time.

Everyone knows he was gonna be a stud this year it hurts to lose him but I understand, family is more important than anything.

What does it mean that his family was “hit hard” by Covid? Did everybody die? No? Then did they just get sick, which is now apparently worse than dying the way the media spins it. To opt out of an entire football season just because you MIGHT run a fever and cough is ridiculous. It’s unbelievable how much this virus is controlling people’s lives.

He shouldn’t get an extra year IF he has redshirted. Otherwise ALL seniors should not have that chance.

Go ahead and be dumb and look at what a frick-up baseball is. The ONLY reason they should have considered that is because they didn’t have a chance to play for a title unlike NF.
You can’t frick with a multi-billion dollar enterprise like the NFL and MUST consider the high school athlete.
I’ve watched my grandson’s best friend and teammate go from a larger school D-1 offer potential to having to settle for a Sam Houston, SFA, TAMUCC or McNeese type of school. He Is a lefty and has hit 91 on his fb (97 on a run and throw) and throws a 70mph change, 75 spiked ball and a very good backdoor slider /cutter in the low to mid-80’s. He has received letters from LSU before but nothing solid as I sent them information on him.
TAMU was looking at him as well. This summer was his summer because he was a late bloomer growthwise. He is now 6‘1 to 6’2 and Now at 180 where he was almost 6’ last summer and 155. He is maturing and his FB has really taken off.
Now schools are picking up LSU cast offs and the scholarship pool is getting smaller due to budget cuts and some programs possibly folding. This push back is HORRIBLE.

If you have a chance to play the sport for the entire season, then that is it. No coming back. Move on to the NFL or life.

Wah wah wah life is not “fair” you bunch of participation trophy entitled assholes.
NONE of them deserve anything but a scholarship that could let them finish AT MOST.
Bunch of pussies. Look at the fricking real world where people are losing their jobs and quit thinking about what’s “fair” to a guy who has spent 4 years at a university on their nickel and given every advantage that students like myself never had with tutoring, etc.

I’ll donate to the COVID fund that I’ve received the email on, but that’s it.
No additional eligibility.

C’mon man... do you know how awesome it is to play DE for Pelini? Also it’s a thin position - think of your team family and its needs.

Good luck not getting drafted this year. And if he’s planning on coming back next year he’s not gonna have a spot so good luck helping your family from the flu.
