With over 11 minutes left in the game, the only way to cement that victory was to take out Jayden Daniels. Bama needed to hurt the best player on the LSU team.
Put - him - on - the - bench.

The Bama defense was struggling up to that point. They could not contain Daniels either on the ground or through the air. They needed to Hurt Daniels so severely that he had to leave the game.

Dallas Turner was the guy to levy the hit. He had done it before. It was classic targeting with the helmet under the chin and a full drive into the turf. That hit changed the game and possibly the LSU team from this point on. It Possibly changed our season.

Dallas Turner is a thug and Saban is a dirty coach.

No he’s not. He’s Mason Taylor’s recruiter.

Why do people keep saying this? They were up by 14 and LSU couldn't stop their offense. Can anyone tell me why Bama would think that the only way to secure a victory at that point would be to hurt JD?

It was targeting, but it was such a bang bang play, I wouldn't call the player a thug. He hit Daniels while in the motion of throwing. It wasn't a dirty hit long after the ball was gone. Yes he hit too high and yes with todays rules it is targeting which should have been called.

Will Campbell could have helped his QB out by actually blocking Turner. Campbell got beat bad by an inside move and played patty cake with Turner which gave him free run to the QB. Campbell also had a bad holding call were Turner twisted him up and then he let Turner get his hands up to block the pass for an int. Campbell is a good young player, but as BK says "Good isn't good enough, you gotta be elite."

The guy saw a chance to get a hit on the QB and did. Just like everyone is taught in football. If it were the other way around we would have all yelled “BOOM!!” real loud in the stadium and cheered, and no one would be calling our players thugs

I thought it was targeting but I’m not running around town saying how dirty Dallas Turner is and how it was essentially a mafia hit on our QB.

Adults need to grow up

I think you are wrong.
We would have yelled "BOOM" if was our guy making the hit and Alabama Fans would have gone ape sh*t.
And our guy would have been ejected for targeting.
You can argue about the ultimate impact on the game, b/c tha t is unknown and unknowable.

We still would have lost that game. Be mad at our turnstile tackle that got abused on the play. Be mad at our Defensive Coordinator. He’s stealing money LSU. You make it sound like we were running away with the game. They only needed to stop us once or twice because we can’t stop anyone. Our offensive prowess is wasted with a defensive squad and staff that is this bad against good teams. Worst I can ever recall.

Your so wrong on this part. They cemented victory when LSU never stopped them once in the second half.

They didn't need to try to knock the QB out. They were up 14 and were abusing our defense all game.

A comeback was highly unlikely, but not impossible until JD was knocked out of the game. He was denied the opportunity to try to have his Heisman moment.

LSU had the ball so that would have been cut to 7. LSU D could’ve stopped them despite not doing a great job of it earlier. Throw in some chaos and the game gets tied quick.
This really isn’t hard to comprehend. You think you made a good point, but did not.

I don’t get it either. You can call Turner a thug and think it was a cheap shot without thinking that was the only way Bama could stop LSU and win the game. Besides being up 14 and moving at will against LSU at that point they had stopped our offense on 2 consecutive drives before the hit.

Their offensive tactics change afterwards to run more clock, but if JD wasn’t hurt they would have easily matched every score. Our already porous defense was worn out in 2nd half.
