It’s the most sensible way to do it in my opinion. I like the symmetry. Start with 2 regionals paired together followed by a 3 game series to decide the champion that goes to Omaha.
Then Omaha is two regionals paired together followed by a 3 game series to decide the champion.

That’s a significant amount of extra space.

Question for the old people. How did the old format work. Loser switched to the other bracket and had to come out to face the 2-0 team from the bracket.
I remember liking it because of the different matchups, but that the winner take all championship was poorly thought out
